Puerarin‐Loaded Macrophage‐Derived Exosomes for Experimental Atherosclerosis

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 5, September 2026.
We developed a macrophage‐derived exosome‐based delivery system to enhance the therapeutic efficacy of puerarin (Pue) against atherosclerosis (AS). Exosomes were isolated from RAW264.7 cells, co‐cultured with Pue, and comprehensively characterized for morphology, stability, and drug loading.

Inherited microcytic anemias due to disorders of iron and heme metabolism: An updated clinical review

open access: yesHemaSphere, Volume 10, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Microcytic anemia is among the most common hematological abnormalities in clinical practice and is usually attributable to iron deficiency, thalassemia traits, or anemia of inflammation. A small but clinically important subset of patients, however, has inherited disorders of iron metabolism or heme synthesis presenting with persistent ...

Bioengineered Extracellular Vesicles Mitigate Neuroinflammation by Neutralizing Pneumolysin and Delaying Disease Onset in Experimental Pneumococcal Meningitis

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Bacterial meningitis is a life‐threatening neurological disorder frequently caused by a Streptococcus pneumoniae (the pneumococcus) infection of the brain. Standard treatment consists of antibiotics to eliminate bacteria and dexamethasone to reduce inflammation.

Population Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacokinetic/Pharmacodynamic Analyses of Pegcetacoplan in Patients with Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria

open access: yesDrugs in R&D
Background and Objective Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria is a rare blood disorder characterized by life-threatening hemolysis and thrombosis. Complement C5 inhibitor therapy improves symptoms and life prognosis; however, it can result in insufficient

Cerebral Blood Transit in Sickle Cell Anemia

open access: yesJournal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Volume 64, Issue 3, Page 738-750, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Sickle cell anemia (SCA) patients upregulate cerebral blood flow to compensate for decreased arterial oxygen content. Such hyperemic conditions can manifest as venous hyperintense signal on arterial spin labeling (ASL) MRI, which may reflect faster capillary blood transit, altered oxygen extraction fraction (OEF), and infarct risk ...

DAMPs, PAMPs, and Alarmins: From Mechanism to Therapy

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 9, September 2026.
This review synthesizes the expanding biology of PAMPs and DAMPs, from their molecular sources and sensing mechanisms to regulatory networks that govern inflammation and homeostasis. Spanning from classical immune activation to trained immunity and interorgan communication, we highlight the interplay between PAMPs and DAMPs and their context‐dependent ...

Peroxynitrite‐induced structural remodeling and aggregation of hemoglobin under nitroxidative stress

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Peroxynitrite (PN), generated by the reaction of nitric oxide with superoxide, is a potent reactive nitrogen species (RNS) implicated in nitroxidative protein damage in cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. Hemoglobin (Hb), the principal oxygen‐transport protein of erythrocytes, is a key intravascular scavenger and target of PN ...

Perioperative Changes in Blood Volume and Fluid Distribution in Total Hip Arthroplasty—A Protocol for a Prospective Single‐Center Observational Study

open access: yesActa Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, Volume 70, Issue 8, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Surgical stress response initiates a complex pathophysiological cascade that alters fluid distribution and intravascular volume. In elective total hip arthroplasty (THA), the perioperative blood loss is potentially substantial, a significant part of the loss being hidden caused by tissue extravasation, residual joint blood, and ...
