Intradermal immunization of mice with radiation-attenuated sporozoites of Plasmodium yoelii induces effective protective immunity

open access: yesMalaria Journal, 2010
Background Intravenous injection of mice with attenuated Plasmodium berghei sporozoites induces sterile immunity to challenge with viable sporozoites. Non-intravenous routes have been reported to yield poor immunity.

High Performance In Vivo Near-IR (>1 μm) Imaging and Photothermal Cancer Therapy with Carbon Nanotubes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Short single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) functionalized by PEGylated phospholipids are biologically non-toxic and long-circulating nanomaterials with intrinsic near infrared photoluminescence (NIR PL), characteristic Raman spectra, and strong optical absorbance in the near infrared (NIR).

3D Masked Autoencoders with Application to Anomaly Detection in Non-Contrast Enhanced Breast MRI [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Self-supervised models allow (pre-)training on unlabeled data and therefore have the potential to overcome the need for large annotated cohorts. One leading self-supervised model is the masked autoencoder (MAE) which was developed on natural imaging data.

PEG Branched Polymer for Functionalization of Nanomaterials with Ultralong Blood Circulation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society Article ASAP 2009 - 10.1021/ja809086q, 2009
Nanomaterials have been actively pursued for biological and medical applications in recent years. Here, we report the synthesis of several new poly(ethylene glycol) grafted branched-polymers for functionalization of various nanomaterials including carbon nanotubes, gold nanoparticles (NP) and gold nanorods (NRs), affording high aqueous solubility and ...

Modelling Framework and Assistive Device for Peripheral Intravenous Injections

open access: yesOpen Engineering, 2016
Intravenous access for blood sampling or drug administration that requires peripheral venepuncture is perhaps the most common invasive procedure practiced in hospitals, clinics and general practice surgeries. We describe an idealised mathematical ...

Deep-Tissue Anatomical Imaging of Mice Using Carbon Nanotube Fluorophores in the Second Near Infrared Window [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Fluorescent imaging in the second near infrared window (NIR II, 1-1.4 {\mu}m) holds much promise due to minimal autofluorescence and tissue scattering. Here, using well functionalized biocompatible single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) as NIR II fluorescent imaging agents, we performed high frame rate video imaging of mice during intravenous injection

Ablation of LRP6 in alpha‐smooth muscle actin‐expressing cells abrogates lung inflammation and fibrosis upon bleomycin‐induced lung injury

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Low‐density lipoprotein receptor‐related protein 6 (LRP6) is a key receptor for the Wnt antagonist Dickkopf1 (DKK1). DKK1 protein expression is induced in a bleomycin (BLM)‐induced lung injury model. We show that DKK1 induces proinflammatory and profibrotic genes in lung fibroblasts.
