Intravenous Labetalol in Acute Aortic Dissection
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1987To the Editor.— In their CASE REPORT on labetalol hydrochloride therapy for acute aortic dissection, Grubb et al1used a 20-mg bolus followed by a continuous infusion of 2 mg/min for two days. The total intravenous dose was therefore 5.78 g in 48 hours. The manufacturer suggests a maximum dose of 300 mg/d.2Could the authors please comment on the dosing

Pharmacodynamics of intravenous labetalol and follow-up therapy with oral labetalol
Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 1985The effectiveness, safety, and pharmacodynamics of repeated doses of intravenous labetalol for rapid reduction of severe hypertension and of subsequent oral labetalol dosing were studied. Twelve patients with severe hypertension were admitted to the hospital after the withholding of antihypertensive therapy for 2 to 14 days.

Intravenous Labetalol and Intravenous Dihydralazine in Severe Hypertension in Pregnancy
Clinical and Experimental Hypertension. Part B: Hypertension in Pregnancy, 1982The effect of intravenous infusion of labetalol and of dihydralazine in increasing doses was compared in 12 women with severe hypertension in pregnancy. In 5 our of 6 women labetalol produced a smooth, progressive fall in blood pressure to normal levels with minimal side effects.

Treatment of severe hypertension with intravenous labetalol
Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 1982The effectiveness of repeated intravenous injections of labetalol in reducing blood pressure (BP) was evaluated in patients with severe hypertension. The subjects were 10 patients who were 29 to 61 yr old and who had diastolic blood pressure (DBP) of 125 mm Hg or higher. Repeated injections titrated from 20 to 80 mg were given at 15-min intervals until

Emergency Treatment of Severe Hypertension with Intravenous Labetalol
Medical Journal of Australia, 1978The effects of intravenously administered labetalol on blood pressure and pulse rate were examined in 17 patients with severe hypertension. Prompt and sustained falls in supine blood pressure and pulse rate occurred in ten patients (responders), but seven patients showed little or no change in either measurement (non-responders).

Hemodynamic effects of intravenous labetalol in essential hypertension
Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 1983Labetalol inhibits alpha- and beta-adrenergic receptors. Systemic and regional hemodynamic alterations after intravenous labetalol and its cardiovascular reflexive and metabolic effects were evaluated in 12 subjects with mild to moderately severe essential hypertension.

Intravenously administered labetalol for treatment of hypertension in children
The Journal of Pediatrics, 1992Thirteen children (ages 9.2 +/- 3.7 years, mean +/- SD) received intravenous doses of labetalol, an alpha 1- and beta-adrenergic blocker, on 15 separate occasions for treatment of hypertension. In 12 of 15 episodes an initial dose of 0.55 +/- 0.34 mg/kg was given; in all 15 a continuous infusion of 0.78 +/- 0.39 mg/kg per hour was utilized for 67.3 +/-

Optimal treatment for women with acute hypertension in pregnancy; a randomized trial comparing intravenous labetalol versus nicardipine [PDF]
Objectives: Blood pressure control in severe hypertension of pregnancy is crucial for mother and neonate. In absence of evidence, guidelines recommend either intravenous labetalol or nicardipine.

Intravenous Labetalol and Intravenous Diazoxide in Severe Hypertension Complicating Pregnancy
Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 1986Summary: The results of a prospective trial to evaluate the use of diazoxide and labetalol given intravenously in the management of severe hypertensive disease in pregnancy are presented. Both drugs had an efficient hypotensive action. The reduction in blood pressure in the labetalol group was better controlled and this may be a factor influencing ...
