AKAP1 Protects Retinal Ganglion Cells and Preserves Vision by Improving Mitochondrial and Synaptic Health in Glaucomatous Neurodegeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Intravitreal AAV2‐mediated AKAP1 restoration enhances mitochondrial fusion and biogenesis, improves bioenergetic capacity, and preserves mitochondrial integrity in glaucomatous RGCs. AKAP1 stabilizes presynaptic structure, maintaining synaptic protein expression, and limiting complement‐associated neuroinflammation.

A Mechanistic Dissection of Multifaceted Complement Attack in Age‐Related Macular Degeneration Reveals the Superiority of C3 Inhibition

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Complement‐mediated RPE degeneration extends beyond terminal MAC injury. A four‐hit mechanism emerges in which C3a and C5a disrupt mitochondrial function, while C3b and MAC compromise the phagolysosomal system. Upstream C3 inhibition suppresses this full spectrum of pathogenic effectors, providing broader cellular protection than C5 blockade.

Dexamethasone intravitreal implant in the crystalline lens: a case report

open access: yesArquivos Brasileiros de Oftalmologia, 2020
This report describes the therapeutic effects and outcomes of an accidental injection of an intralenticular sustained-release dexamethasone implant (Ozurdex®) in three patients with diabetic macular edema. All three patients underwent accidental injections of sustained-release intravitreal dexamethasone implants into the crystalline lens by the same ...
