Intrinsic Instabilities of Curved Premixed Flames
Europhysics Letters (EPL), 1993A study of instabilities occurring in downward-propagating curved premixed flames is undertaken, on the basis of a Michelson-Sivashinsky equation including gravity effects. Contrary to the qualitative idea of Zel'dovich et al. on flame stability (Combust. Sci.

Intrinsic Instabilities Of Heavy Metal Fluoride Glasses
Optical Engineering, 1985Heavy metal fluoride glasses (HMFG) are potentially useful as optical components in a wide range of devices. Their utilization has so far been delayed mainly because of insufficient material purity and inadequate processing conditions. However, as the result of numerous research efforts, these problems are gradually diminishing, and it now seems likely

Bifurcations and instability in the adhesion of intrinsically curved rods
Mechanics Research Communications, 2013Abstract Motivated by applications such as gecko-inspired adhesives and microdevices featuring slender rod-like bodies, there has been an increase in interest in the deformed shapes of elastic rods adhering to rigid surfaces. A central issue in analyses of the rod-based models for these systems is the stability of the predicted equilibrium ...

Pattern formation in the presence of an intrinsic polarization instability
Journal of Optics B: Quantum and Semiclassical Optics, 2000The interaction of pattern formation with an intrinsic polarization instability is studied in a modified single feedback mirror experiment. We report on hexagonal patterns in an inversion symmetric system which occur due to a symmetry-breaking polarization instability and on domain patterns which are stabilized by the modulational instability.

Intrinsic instability of the lattice BGK model
Acta Mechanica Sinica, 2002Based on the stability analysis with no linearization and expansion, it is argued that instability in the lattice BGK model is originated from the linear relaxation hypothesis of collision in the model. The hypothesis stands up only when the deviation from the local equilibrium is weak. In this case the computation is absolutely stable for real fluids.

Intrinsic Stability, Multi Stability and Instability
2002Standard economic theories on market structure can be divided in two categories depending on their underlying assumptions about the degree of strategic (and structural) dependence among the interacting agents (firms, producers etc.) who are operating on the supply side of the economy.

Intrinsic instabilities of cooperative upconversion dynamics in lasers
OSA Annual Meeting, 1993When the 2.8 µm erbium laser is pumped well above threshold an instability is observed at a unique pumping wavelength which causes the laser inversion to be produced by interactions among neighboring impurity ions. We show experimentally that this instability does not occur at equivalent levels over threshold when excitation is provided at wavelengths ...

Analysis of Entropy Wave Effects on Intrinsic Thermoacoustic Instabilities
Physics of FluidsThermoacoustic instability is a common problem in a wide range of combustors. Acoustic waves and unstable heat release interact to produce this instability, which can also be influenced by entropy waves. This study reveals that under certain conditions, the intrinsic thermoacoustic (ITA) frequency can shift due to changes in the system's inherent ...

The carbuncle phenomenon: an intrinsic inviscid instability
1999The numerical calculation of shock wave by the Euler equations can generate in some cases and with some numerical schemes a pathology: it is the so-called carbuncle phenomenon. The purpose of this paper is to show that this pathology can be interpreted by the existence of an unstable mode in the continuous Euler equations.
