HARMONIC STRUCTURES AND INTRINSIC TORSION [PDF]

open access: yesTransformation Groups, 2015
We discuss the construction of Sp(2)Sp(1)-structures whose fundamental form is closed. In particular, we find 10 new examples of 8-dimensional nilmanifolds that admit an invariant closed 4-form with stabiliser Sp(2)Sp(1). Our constructions entail the notion of SO(4)-structures on 7-manifolds. We present a thorough investigation of the intrinsic torsion

Superstrings with intrinsic torsion [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 2004
We systematically analyse the necessary and sufficient conditions for the preservation of supersymmetry for bosonic geometries of the form R^{1,9-d} \times M_d, in the common NS-NS sector of type II string theory and also type I/heterotic string theory.

Isolated Fallopian Tube Torsion Concomitant With an Adenomatoid Tumor Arising From the Fallopian Tube: A Case Report [PDF]

open access: yesCase Reports in Obstetrics and Gynecology
Isolated fallopian tube torsion (IFTT) is a rare condition in which the fallopian tube undergoes torsion without ovary involvement. The causes of IFTT vary widely, ranging from intrinsic abnormalities of the fallopian tube itself to extrinsic factors ...

Automated 3-Dimensional Measurements of First Metatarsal Dysplasia in Hallux Valgus [PDF]

open access: yesFoot & Ankle Orthopaedics
Background: Pronation of first metatarsal (M1) in hallux valgus (HV) is currently the subject of a growing body of scientific research. Several methods of manual measurements have been developed, providing heterogeneous results.

The intrinsic torsion of almost quaternion-Hermitian manifolds [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales De L'Institut Fourier, 2008
We study the intrinsic torsion of almost quaternion-Hermitian manifolds via the exterior algebra. In particular, we show how it is determined by particular three-forms formed from simple combinations of the exterior derivatives of the local Kähler forms.

Geometry of G-Structures via the Intrinsic Torsion [PDF]

open access: yesSymmetry, Integrability and Geometry: Methods and Applications (SIGMA), 2016
We study the geometry of a $G$-structure $P$ inside the oriented orthonormal frame bundle ${\rm SO}(M)$ over an oriented Riemannian manifold $M$. We assume that $G$ is connected and closed, so the quotient ${\rm SO}(n)/G$, where $n=\dim M$, is a normal homogeneous space and we equip ${\rm SO}(M)$ with the natural Riemannian structure induced from the ...

Intrinsic Conformational Energetics Associated with the Glycosyl Torsion in DNA: A Quantum Mechanical Study [PDF]

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 2002
The glycosyl torsion (chi) in nucleic acids has long been recognized to be a major determinant of their conformational properties. chi torsional energetics were systematically mapped in deoxyribonucleosides using high-level quantum mechanical methods, for north and south sugar puckers and with gamma in the g(+) and trans conformations.

Extrinsic and intrinsic fracture behavior of high pressure torsion deformed nickel

open access: yesScripta Materialia, 2012
Nickel discs (>99.5 wt.%) were deformed by high pressure torsion (HPT) at different temperatures (-196 °C, 25 °C, 200 °C, and 400 °C) until saturation was reached. The strength and fracture behavior of microdefect-free samples and samples with inclusions were investigated using micro and macro tensile tests, respectively.
