Hybridization and extensive mitochondrial introgression among fire salamanders in peninsular Italy [PDF]
Discordance between mitochondrial and nuclear patterns of population genetic structure is providing key insights into the eco-evolutionary dynamics between and within species, and their assessment is highly relevant to biodiversity monitoring practices ...

Anthropogenic Hybridization at Sea: three evolutionary questions relevant to invasive species [PDF]
Species introductions promote secondary contacts between taxa with long histories of allopatric divergence. Anthropogenic contact zones thus offer valuable contrasts to speciation studies in natural systems where past spatial isolations may have been brief or intermittent. Investigations of anthropogenic hybridization are rare for marine animals, which

A New Advanced Backcross Tomato Population Enables High Resolution Leaf QTL Mapping and Gene Identification. [PDF]
Quantitative Trait Loci (QTL) mapping is a powerful technique for dissecting the genetic basis of traits and species differences. Established tomato mapping populations between domesticated tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) and its more distant interfertile ...

Interpreting the genomic landscape of introgression
Introgression, the transfer of genetic material between species through hybridisation, occurs in many taxa and has important consequences. Genomic studies allow us to characterise the landscape of introgression across the genome, shedding light on both its adaptive benefits and the incompatibilities that help to maintain species barriers.

Shennong 1 Chicken 40K Liquid Chip: Advancing Genetic Research in Chinese Indigenous Chickens
Based on comprehensive genomic data of Chinese indigenous chickens, we developed a specialized genotyping array for this population. Comparative analyses with published mainstream arrays and evaluations, including genetic assessment of diverse chicken types and gene mining analyses, demonstrated its superior applicability to Chinese indigenous chickens.

Factors influencing the efficiency of a marker-assisted introgression programme in Merino sheep
This study investigated a marker-assisted introgression programme in Australian Merino sheep. The goal was to introgress an allele with a large negative effect on fibre diameter into a Merino flock possessing medium average fibre diameter.

Next-generation hybridization and introgression [PDF]
Hybridization has a major role in evolution-from the introgression of important phenotypic traits between species, to the creation of new species through hybrid speciation. Molecular studies of hybridization aim to understand the class of hybrids and the frequency of introgression, detect the signature of ancient hybridization, and understand the ...

This study built a Wenchang chicken haplotype genome and integrated it with 29 others to create a chicken pangenome atlas. Analysis of 354 chickens revealed 185,205 structural variations (SVs), with one‐third derived from homology‐based and transposable elements.

Distributional shifts driven by Quaternary climatic oscillations have been suggested to cause interspecific hybridization and introgression. In this study, we aimed to test this hypothesis by using population transcriptomes and coalescent modeling of two

Overlaid species forests [PDF]
Introgression is an evolutionary process in which genes or other types of genetic material are introduced into a genome. It is an important evolutionary process that can, for example, play a fundamental role in speciation. Recently the concept of an overlaid species forest was introduced to represent introgression histories.
