A novel intumescent flame retardant imparts high flame retardancy to epoxy resin

Polymers for Advanced Technologies, 2019
Intumescent flame retardant (IFR) has received the considerable attention ascribed to the inherent advantages including non‐halogen, low toxicity, low smoke release and environmentally friendly. In this work, a novel charring agent poly (piperazine phenylaminophosphamide) named as PPTA was successfully synthesized and characterized by Fourier transform

Flame-Retardant Effect of Sepiolite on an Intumescent Flame-Retardant Polypropylene System

Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2011
Intumescent flame-retardant polypropylene-containing phosphorus and nitrogen compounds were enhanced significantly by adding a small amount of sepiolite as a synergistic agent. The flame-retardant polypropylene composite was characterized by limiting oxygen index (LOI), UL-94, the cone calorimeter (CCT), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) to study ...

Thermal and flame retardant properties of novel intumescent flame retardant polypropylene composites

Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry, 2012
Novel intumescent flame retardant polypropylene (PP) composites were prepared based on a char forming agent (CFA) and silica-gel microencapsulated ammonium polyphosphate (Si-MCAPP). The thermal and flame retardancy of flame retardant PP composites were investigated by limiting oxygen index, UL-94 test, cone calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis ...

Flame retardants: intumescent systems

1998
Intumescent fire retardant additives undergo a thermal degradation process on heating, which produces a thermally stable, foamed, multicellular residue called ‘intumescent char’. When these substances are added to a polymeric material which is later involved in a fire, they produce an intumescent char which accumulates on the surface, while the polymer

Polymer Binders of Flame-Retardant Intumescent Coatings

2020
This chapter presents the results of review and comparison of contributions made by film formers of intumescent composition, which initially forms a fire-retardant coating. Based on a critical analysis of literature and experimental data, it is shown that the nature of polymer binder has a direct effect on the fire-retardant efficiency of the ...

Triazine macromolecule containing intumescent flame retardant polyolefin

2009 IEEE 9th International Conference on the Properties and Applications of Dielectric Materials, 2009
A new triazine macromolecule was synthesized by using cyanuric chloride, ethnolamine and ethylenediamine. It is used as both a charring agent and a foaming agent in intumensect flame retardant, named as novel charring-foaming agent (CFA). CFA has a good ability of char formation itself.

Intumescent flame retardant systems of modified rheology

Polymer Degradation and Stability, 2002
Abstract A model system of intumescent flame retardants, consisting of ammonium polyphosphate and pentaerythritol was prepared and investigated in polypropylene and without the polymer matrix. Thermal scanning oscillation rheometric investigation in the temperature range of 170–500 °C was used to detect the rheological behaviour in the region of ...

Effect of Modified Intumescent Flame Retardant via Surfactant/Polyacrylate Latex on Properties of Intumescent Flame Retardant ABS Composites

Journal of Macromolecular Science, Part B, 2008
In order to prepare intumescent flame retardant acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) composites with only a small decrease in their mechanical properties, we investigated the effect of adding an elastomeric polyacrylate latex and the surfactant TX-10 phosphate to modify the ammonium polyphosphate, melamine, and calcium 3-hydroxy-2, 2-bis(hydroxymethyl)

Effect of nickel phytate on flame retardancy of intumescent flame retardant polylactic acid

Polymers for Advanced Technologies, 2020
Biodegradable polymers with flame retardancy have aroused great interest in the fabrication of biobased flame retardants. In this study, nickel phytate (PA‐Ni) was prepared by reaction of phytic acid from plant seeds with nickel acetate in water and then used as flame retardant added into polylactic acid (PLA) with intumescent flame retardant (IFR ...

Synthesis of a novel intumescent flame retardant and its flame retardancy in polypropylene

Journal of Polymer Research, 2010
Microencapsulated ammonium polyphosphate (GMFAPP) is prepared by in situ polymerization method with a shell of poly(ethylene glycol) modified melamine-formaldehyde resin. Due to the presence of shell, GMFAPP shows less size, higher water resistance and flame retardancy in polypropylene (PP) compared with ammonium polyphosphate (APP).
