An Invariant-Manifold Approach to Lumping [PDF]
Summary: Differential equation models of chemical or biochemical systems usually display multiple, widely varying time scales, i.e. they are stiff. After the decay of transients, trajectories of these systems approach low-dimensional invariant manifolds on which the eventual attractor (an equilibrium point in a closed system) is approached, and in ...

Canards and curvature: nonsmooth approximation by pinching [PDF]
In multiple time-scale (singularly perturbed) dynamical systems, canards are counterintuitive solutions that evolve along both attracting and repelling invariant manifolds.

Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.

The minimal entropy problem for 3-manifolds with zero simplicial volume [PDF]
In this note, we consider the minimal entropy problem, namely the question of whether there exists a smooth metric of minimal (topological) entropy, for certain classes of closed 3 ...

A globally stable attractor that is locally unstable everywhere
We construct two examples of invariant manifolds that despite being locally unstable at every point in the transverse direction are globally stable. Using numerical simulations we show that these invariant manifolds temporarily repel nearby trajectories ...

On the Geometry in the Large of Einstein-like Manifolds
Gray has presented the invariant orthogonal irreducible decomposition of the space of all covariant tensors of rank 3, obeying only the identities of the gradient of the Ricci tensor.

BPS invariants for Seifert manifolds [PDF]
Abstract We calculate the homological blocks for Seifert manifolds from the exact ex- pression for the G = SU(N ) Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev invariants of Seifert manifolds obtained by Lawrence, Rozansky, and Mariño. For the G = SU(2) case, it is possible to ex- press them in terms of the false theta functions and their derivatives.

Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

The presence of biotin‐binding avidin proteins in fish and their biological significance are poorly characterized. We cataloged fish avidins and demonstrate that they are widely present and evolutionarily conserved. We created avd knockout zebrafish and show that zebavidin is dispensable for development and that resistance of avd knockout embryos in ...

Spiralling invariant manifolds [PDF]
A definition of the concept of a multidimensional spiralling manifold is studied. Manifolds of this type are shown to occur as invariant manifolds of flows containing hyperbolic restpoints with a pair of complex conjugate eigenvalues.
