The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Dualities in fractional statistics

open access: yes, 2004
We first reobtain in a simpler way the Haldane fractional statistics at thermal equilibrium using an interpolation argument. We then show that the mean occupation number for fractional statistics is invariant to a group of duality transformations, a ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

SCALE INVARIANT FEATURE TRANSFORM PLUS HUE FEATURE [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2017
This paper presents an enhanced method for extracting invariant features from images based on Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT). Although SIFT features are invariant to image scale and rotation, additive noise, and changes in illumination but we ...

Exposed points of left invariant means [PDF]

open access: yesPacific Journal of Mathematics, 1986
Let S be a left amenable semigroup and let ML(S) be the set of left invariant means on the Banach space of all bounded functions on S with the usual sup-norm. The author proves the following results concerning exposed points of ML(S): (1) ML(S) has exposed points iff S has finite left ideals.

Invariant means and iterates of mean-type mappings [PDF]

open access: yesAequationes mathematicae, 2019
Classical result states that for two continuous and strict means $M,\,N \colon I^2 \to I$ ($I$ is an interval) there exists a unique $(M,N)$-invariant mean $K \colon I^2 \to I$, i.e. such a mean that $K \circ (M,N)=K$ and, moreover, the sequence of iterates $((M,N)^n)_{n=1}^\infty$ converge to $(K,K)$ pointwise.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Asymptotics of the invariant measure in mean field models with jumps

open access: yesStochastic Systems, 2012
We consider the asymptotics of the invariant measure for the process of the empirical spatial distribution of N coupled Markov chains in the limit of a large number of chains. Each chain reflects the stochastic evolution of one particle.

New proofs on two recent inequalities for unitarily invariant norms

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 2020
In this short note, we provide alternative proofs for several recent results due to Audenaert (Oper. Matrices 9:475–479, 2015) and Zou (J. Math. Inequal. 10:1119–1122, 2016; Linear Algebra Appl. 552:154–162, 2019).

An Invariant Volume-Mean-Value Property

open access: yesJournal of Functional Analysis, 1993
If \(f\) is \({\mathcal M}\)-harmonic in the unit ball \(B_ n\) of \(\mathbb{C}^ n\) [cf. the last author, ``Function theory of the unit ball of \(\mathbb{C}^ n\)'', Springer Verlag, New York - Berlin (1980; Zbl 0495.32001), p. 49] and \(f\in L^ 1(B_ n)\), then \(f\) has the volume-mean-value property, i.e.
