Moving-Object Tracking Algorithm Based on PCA-SIFT and Optimization for Underground Coal Mines

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
In view of the complex and changeable environment in underground coal mines, an improved algorithm based on the principal component analysis-scale invariant feature transform (PCA-SIFT) and mean shift is proposed to address the issues for which existing ...

On the range of an invariant mean [PDF]

open access: yesTransactions of the American Mathematical Society, 1966
Introduction. Let S be a discrete semigroup, m(S) the space of bounded real functions on S with the usual sup. norm, and m(S)* the conjugate Banach space of m(S). An element b e m(S)* is a mean if O(f) >0 whenever f>0 and #(1) =1, where 1 denotes also the constant one function on S.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Amenable Groups and Invariant Means

open access: yesJournal of Functional Analysis, 1994
The problem of nonuniqueness of invariant finitely additive probability measures on \(S^ n\) is naturally linked to amenability properties. The general question was raised by J. Rosenblatt. Whereas by set theoretical arguments nonuniqueness was established for nilpotent and solvable groups, the author makes use of analytical methods to prove that for ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Mean Field Approaches to Lattice Gauge Theories: A Review

open access: yesEntropy
Due to their broad applicability, gauge theories (GTs) play a crucial role in various areas of physics, from high-energy physics to condensed matter. Their formulations on lattices, lattice gauge theories (LGTs), can be studied, among many other methods,

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...
