Scatter factors and invasive growth

Seminars in Cancer Biology, 2001
Scatter factors are unequivocal signals governing a genetic program that includes cell detachment, repulsion, protection from apoptosis, invasiveness of extracellular matrices and proliferation. This pleiomorphic response is defined as 'invasive growth'.

Invasive thymoma with endobronchial polypoid growth

Surgery Today, 1997
A rare case of invasive thymoma with endobronchial polypoid growth is presented. A 68-year-old woman presented with coughing and sputum. The chest X-ray and computed tomography (CT) findings demonstrated a large mass with a calcified lesion in the left hilar region. A bronchoscopic examination showed a polypoid tumor in the left B3b bronchus. The tumor

Biomechanics of invasive growth by Armillaria rhizomorphs

Fungal Genetics and Biology, 2009
Rhizomorphs of wood-decay basidiomycetes are root-like structures produced by the coordinated growth of thousands of hyphae. Very little is known about their development nor the way that they penetrate soils and rotting wood. In this study, we applied techniques used in previous studies on hyphae to explore the mechanics of the invasive growth process ...

Invasiveness and intracellular growth of Listeria monocytogenes

Infection, 1988
Listeria monocytogenes is an invasive bacterial pathogen capable of multiplying inside many host cells, including macrophages, enterocytes and hepatocytes. There is evidence to believe that secretion of listeriolysin O, an SH-activated exotoxin, is crucial for bacterial growth in host tissues.

Brain Tumor Epidemiology, Growth, and Invasion

Neurosurgery Clinics of North America, 1990
This article focuses on the most common primary intracranial neoplasms and the biologic descriptions of their growth and invasion. The proliferative aspects of the different primary brain tumors are discussed, along with recently discovered genetic changes.

Tumor Growth and Invasion

2017
In this chapter, we introduce LGCA models of tumor growth and invasion . All these models are related to in vitro experiments with cancer cell lines. Besides the suggestion of cellular automaton models for particular aspects of cancer complexity the intention of this chapter is to show how combinations of interaction modules introduced in the previous ...

Hepatocyte growth factor in invasive growth of carcinomas

Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences, 2007
Hepatocyte growth factor is a multifunctional cytokine of the tumor microenvironment. An important advance in the knowledge of cancer progression has been the appreciation that the tumor invasive phenotype is strongly influenced by microenvironmental stimuli.

Percolation and invasion percolation as fractal growth problems

Physical Review A, 1990
We apply the fixed-scale transformation method, developed for Laplacian fractal growth, to compute the fractal dimension of standard percolating clusters and of clusters generated by invasion percolation with and without trapping. In all cases we obtain values within 1% from the exact or numerical results.
