Heat transfer characteristics of an impinging inverse diffusion flame jet. Part II: Impinging flame structure and impingement heat transfer

open access: yesInternational Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2007
This paper is the second part of the experimental study on exploring the feasibility of inverse diffusion flame (IDF) for impingement heating. The structures and heat transfer characteristics of an impinging IDF jet have been studied.

Preferential diffusion effects on the temperature in usual and inverse diffusion flames

Combustion and Flame, 1996
Abstract Numerical computations are made of axisymmetric laminar jet diffusion flames taking into account detailed chemical kinetics and multicomponent diffusion. Two types of flames are investigated. The one is a usual flame that is formed around a fuel jet surrounded by an air flow.

Noise generation by open inverse diffusion flames

Journal of Vibration and Control, 2013
The acoustic spectra of noise radiation from a turbulent non-premixed inverse diffusion flame were measured and the effect of the point of observation, air jet Reynolds number and overall equivalence ratio on the spectra were examined. The tests were conducted in a wide range of air and fuel flow rates and both the non-reacting and reacting cases were ...

Flamelet-Modeling of Inverse Rich Diffusion Flames

Flow, Turbulence and Combustion, 2012
An experimental and numerical investigation of a confined laminar inverse diffusion flame (IDF) with pure oxygen as oxidizer and carbon dioxide diluted methane as fuel with a global stoichiometry of partial oxidation processes (equivalence ratio of 2.5) is presented.

Mapping and structure of inverse diffusion flames of methane

Symposium (International) on Combustion, 1985
Six different flame types have been identified in a mapping of inverse methane diffusion flames. Only Types I to III were stable. Types II and III were similar and most “representative” of the IDFs; they also covered more than 50% of the total flame map.

Soot Formation In Laminar Inverse Diffusion Flames

Combustion Science and Technology, 1994
Abstract Soot formation in laminar ethylene inverse diffusion flames has been investigated experimentally and modeled. Soot volume fraction and temperature measurements have been made and compared to numerical predictions using a soot formation model previously applied to normal diffusion flames. The inverse flame configuration serves as a good test of

Flame structure of steady and pulsed sooting inverse jet diffusion flames

Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, 2005
Abstract In turbulent buoyant fire plumes, local inverse diffusion flames of air injected into gaseous fuel or fuel vapors occur, but little is known about the tendency to form soot and produce thermal radiation in these flame structures. To investigate these phenomena, steady and pulsed normal and inverse jet diffusion flames of methane/air and ...

Quenching limits of inverse diffusion flames with enriched oxygen

Combustion and Flame, 2015
Abstract Quenching limits of laminar axisymmetric inverse diffusion flames were observed. Oxygen/nitrogen mixtures were injected into hydrocarbons at 1.01 bar. The limits are correlated with scaling that includes the premixed flame quenching distance and the proportionality between diffusion flame length and oxidizer flow rate.

Effects of Fuel Diluents on Flame Characteristics of Laminar Methane-Oxygen Inverse Diffusion Flames

open access: yesCombustion Science and Technology
Inverse co-flow diffusion flames (IDF) are the fundamental flame configuration in which autothermal reforming (ATR) of natural gas is based, a technology for clean hydrogen production.
