Application of the inverse finite element method to design wind turbine blades

open access: yes, 2017
This paper presents a novel methodology to design wind turbine blades using the Inverse Finite Element Method (IFEM). IFEM takes as domain of analysis the geometry of the blade after large elastic deformations caused by given service loads.

Tuning local anisotropy for macroscopic auxeticity: Design auxetic meta-laminae via systematic finite element simulations and machine learning approach

open access: yesMaterials & Design
This paper aims to design meta-lamina for desired properties including overall auxeticity via tuning local anisotropy of each discretized meta-patch. As an example, material system, meta-lamina with square patches is explored.

Tailoring Phonon‐Driven Responses in α‐MoO3 through Isotopic Enrichment

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The implementation of polaritonic materials into nanoscale devices requires selective tuning of parameters to realize desired spectral or thermal responses. One robust material, α‐MoO3, an orthorhombic crystal boasting three distinct phonon dispersions, provides three polaritonic dispersions of hyperbolic phonon polaritons (HPhPs) across the ...

Soft Hardware, Flowing Software: Reconfigurable Microfluidics for Adaptable Chemical Computation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A reconfigurable microfluidic platform based on soft, photo‐printable, and chemically erasable hydrogel structures printed and erased in situ is used to control flow routing, mixing, chemical patterning, and even chemical computing. Using hardware to control chemical computations decouples logic function from molecular composition, demonstrated via ...

Ferroelectric Dynamic‐Field‐Driven Nucleation and Growth Model for Predictive Materials‐To‐Circuit Co‐Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a compact dynamic‐field‐driven nucleation and growth (DFNG) model that captures ferroelectric switching behavior under arbitrary voltage waveforms. It enables extraction of time‐dependent domain wall velocity and growth dimensionality, which can then be extended to device‐level modeling.

Wave Generation by a Finite Baffle Array in Application to Beam-Forming Analysis

open access: yesArchives of Acoustics, 2013
Directional excitation of sound in an aperiodic finite baffle system is analyzed using a method developed earlier in electrostatics. The solution to the corresponding boundary value problem is obtained in the spatial-frequency domain.
