This article proposes a convergent adaptive observer for a damped wave PDE and an infinite‐dimensional ODE coupled in cascade using sampled‐in‐space ODE state measurements. The proposed observer estimates the distributed states of the PDE and ODE along with unknown PDE parameters and spatial input.

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Approximate solution of nonlinear inverse problems by fixed-point iteration
Art. 01208, 8 S.In this paper we propose a derivative-free iterative method for the approximate solution of a nonlinear inverse problem Fx = y. In this method the iterations are defined as Gx(sub k+1) = Gx(sub k) + (Sy - SFx(sub k)), where G is an easily

Setup‐Optimized Sequencing in Job Shops: Modeling Workstation Productivity and Lateness Behavior
Setup‐optimized sequencing in job‐shop production creates a trade‐off between productivity improvement and schedule reliability. A WIP‐explicit modeling framework links sequencing‐induced productivity gains and lateness dispersion through the production operating curve.

A simplified thermoplastic pultrusion model is developed to predict thermal fields in glass fiber/polyethylene terephthalate (GF/PET) composites with reduced computational cost. By combining effective material homogenization, validation against literature data, and Gaussian‐process‐based optimization, the study reveals how heating limits, pulling speed,

Invisibility and inverse problems [PDF]
We describe recent theoretical and experimental progress on making objects invisible. Ideas for devices that would have once seemed fanciful may now be at least approximately realized physically, using a new class of artificially structured materials, metamaterials . The equations that govern

Inverse problems for non-linear hyperbolic equations with disjoint sources and receivers
The paper studies inverse problems of determining unknown coefficients in various semi-linear and quasi-linear wave equations. We introduce a method to solve inverse problems for non-linear equations using interaction of three waves, that makes it ...
