Form and load transfer aspects of foundation systems: Case‐based implementation and adaptation for buildings

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Upon conceptualization of structural behavior, foundations in terms of their form are divided into linear (1D), planar (2D), and volumetric (3D). Regarding the load transfer mechanisms, linear foundation systems are considered vector‐acting, planar foundations are divided into section and surface‐acting, and volumetric ones are recognized as block ...

Geology Matters for Antarctic Geothermal Heat

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Geothermal heat plays a vital role in Antarctic ice sheet stability. The continental geothermal heat flow distribution depends on lithospheric composition and ongoing tectonism. Heat‐producing elements are unevenly enriched in the crust over deep time by

Characterization of Dolomite Reservoir Pore‐Throat Structure Based on Cast Thin Section Image Analysis and Fractal Theory: A Case Study of Middle Jurassic Dolomite in the Southern Depression of Qiangtang Basin, Northern Tibetan Plateau, China

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
The pore throat structure of the dolomite reservoir of the Buqu Formation in the Middle Jurassic in the Qiangtang Basin was evaluated by using the cast thin section image method combined with fractal theory. The results were combined with the reservoir space formation process to discuss the possible controlling factors of pore formation.

Research on the Prediction Method of 3D Surface Deformation in Filling Mining Based on InSAR‐IPIM

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Aiming at a series of defects existing in the monitoring of mining area by InSAR technology, this paper proposes an insar‐ipim model to predict the three‐dimensional surface deformation of filling mining. The parameters of the model are inversed by using the group optimization algorithm slime bacteria algorithm proposed in 2020, and the empirical ...

Mechanical Mechanism of Surrounding Rock Failure and Stability Control for Gob‐Side Entry Driving Near an Advancing Working Face

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Taking the 5104 return airway of Checun Coal Mine as an example, this study visually summarises the main findings and methodologies of the research on surrounding rock control in gob‐side entry driving near an advancing working face. By establishing theoretical and numerical simulation analysis models, the stress distribution and plastic zone evolution

Baltazar Hacquet (1739/40-1815), the Pioneer of Karst Geomorphologists

open access: yesActa Carsologica, 2006
Besides other sciences, B. Hacquet dedicated his research to geology and geomorphology (as we call them now). His most important work “Oryctographia carniolica or Physical (= geological) description of Carniola...” (1778−1789) contains descriptions of ...

Geology of symmetric grounds [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Let us say that a model of $\mathsf{ZF}$ is a symmetric ground if $V$ is a symmetric extension of the model. In this paper, we investigate set-theoretic geology of symmetric grounds. Under a certain assumption, we show that all symmetric grounds of $V$ are uniformly definable. We also show that if $\mathsf{AC}$ is forceable over $V$, then the symmetric
