Development of a Zebrafish Embryo‐Based Test System for Thyroid Hormone System Disruption: 3Rs in Ecotoxicological Research

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology and Chemistry, EarlyView.
Abstract There is increasing concern regarding pollutants disrupting the vertebrate thyroid hormone (TH) system, which is crucial for development. Thus, identification of TH system–disrupting chemicals (THSDCs) is an important requirement in the Organisation for Economic Co‐operation and Development (OECD) testing framework.

Ground Motion Simulations for the 19 January 2020 Jiashi, China, Earthquake Using Stochastic Finite‐Fault Approach

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 9, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Abstract A 6.0‐magnitude (Mw) earthquake was reported to have occurred in Jiashi County, Xinjiang at 21:27 on 19 January 2020, Beijing time (13:27 UTC). This study applied a stochastic finite‐fault approach based on the dynamic corner frequency (EXSIM) to simulate 23 near‐field stations within a distance of 120 km from the epicenter.

Visualizing Uncertainty in Time Series Forecasts: The Impact of Uncertainty Visualization on Users' Confidence, Algorithmic Advice Utilization, and Forecasting Performance

open access: yesJournal of Forecasting, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Time series forecasts are always associated with uncertainty. However, experimental studies on the impact of uncertainty communication provide inconclusive results on the effect of providing this uncertainty to end users. In this study, we examine the impact of uncertainty visualizations on advice utilization in the context of time series ...

Estimating Spectral Effects of Absorbing Aerosols on Backscattered UV Radiation

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 9, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Abstract We examine the spectral effects of tropospheric absorbing aerosol types on backscattered UV radiation from 300 to 400 nm. First, using satellite observations, we show a non‐linear spectral dependence below 340 nm for scenes with significant aerosol absorption.

The Non-Organic Theory of the Genesis of Petroleum [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 1996
Recent advances in interdisciplinary fields as diverse as astrophysics, cosmogeophysics, nuclear geology, etc. have led to interesting developments in the non-organic theory of the genesis of petroleum. This theory, which holds that petroleum is of an abiogenic primordial origin, provides an explanation for certain features of petroleum geology that ...

2019 Mw 6.0 Mesetas (Colombia) Earthquake Sequence: Insights From Integrating Seismic and Morphostructural Observations

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 9, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Abstract The boundary between the Northern Andean block and the South American plate is a first‐order tectonic structure in Colombia with historically M > 7 earthquakes. However, details about individual sections of the system remain unknown. We illuminate the seismotectonic of the Algeciras fault by investigating an earthquake sequence that started on

Generating Realistic Geology Conditioned on Physical Measurements with Generative Adversarial Networks [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
An important problem in geostatistics is to build models of the subsurface of the Earth given physical measurements at sparse spatial locations. Typically, this is done using spatial interpolation methods or by reproducing patterns from a reference image.

Characterization of the Geology of Subsurface Shallow Conglomerate using 2D Electrical Resistivity Imaging at Baragadi, Panna District, Madhya Pradesh, India

open access: yesJournal of Applied Sciences and Environmental Management, 2010
The 2D electrical resistivity imaging study is the rising tool used for characterization of the geology of subsurface diamondiferous shallow conglomerate and geological condition at Baragadi, Panna District, Madhya Pradesh, India.
