Spiralling Inverse Method: A New Inverse Method to Estimate Ocean Mixing [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physical Oceanography
Abstract Here, we introduce the Spiralling Inverse Method (SIM) that provides estimates of the small-scale and mesoscale mixing strength. The SIM uses a vertical integral over a balance between the water mass transformation equation and the thermal wind equation.

Inversion method for initial tsunami waveform reconstruction [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2015
This paper deals with the application of the r-solution method to recover the initial tsunami waveform in a tsunami source area by remote water-level measurements. Wave propagation is considered within the scope of a linear shallow-water theory.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

A Mesh Mapping-Based Cooperative Inversion Strategy for Airborne Transient Electromagnetic and Magnetic Methods

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
Cooperative inversion is a powerful underground imaging technique that can overcome the limitations of a single detection method. However, due to the different grid divisions used by various geophysical methodologies, imposing structural constraints ...

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Stability of Methods for Matrix Inversion [PDF]

open access: yesIMA Journal of Numerical Analysis, 1992
The numerical stability of several matrix inversion methods is analyzed. For triangular matrices it is shown that the unblocked methods satisfy pleasing bounds on the left and right residuals. However for one of the block methods it is necessary to convert a matrix multiplication into the solution of a multiple right-hand side triangular system in ...

Binary structure constrained gravity inversion based on seismic first arrival travel time data

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
Gravity exploration method is one of the important methods for deep mineral resource exploration, but gravity data inversion has limited resolution ability in the vertical direction.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Filtering Methods for Coupled Inverse Problems

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Applied Dynamical Systems, 2023
We are interested in ensemble methods to solve multi-objective optimization problems. An ensemble Kalman method is proposed to solve a formulation of the nonlinear problem using a weighted function approach. An analysis of the mean field limit of the ensemble method yields an explicit update formula for the weights. Numerical examples show the improved

Intelligent Inversion of Deep In Situ Stress Fields Based on the ABC-SVR Algorithm

open access: yesMathematics
Accurate inversion of the deep initial in situ stress field is a fundamental prerequisite for stability analysis of surrounding rock in underground engineering, roadway support design, and prevention and control of dynamic disasters.
