Spiralling Inverse Method: A New Inverse Method to Estimate Ocean Mixing [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physical Oceanography
Abstract Here, we introduce the Spiralling Inverse Method (SIM) that provides estimates of the small-scale and mesoscale mixing strength. The SIM uses a vertical integral over a balance between the water mass transformation equation and the thermal wind equation.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Inversion method for initial tsunami waveform reconstruction [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2015
This paper deals with the application of the r-solution method to recover the initial tsunami waveform in a tsunami source area by remote water-level measurements. Wave propagation is considered within the scope of a linear shallow-water theory.

A Mesh Mapping-Based Cooperative Inversion Strategy for Airborne Transient Electromagnetic and Magnetic Methods

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
Cooperative inversion is a powerful underground imaging technique that can overcome the limitations of a single detection method. However, due to the different grid divisions used by various geophysical methodologies, imposing structural constraints ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Physics‐Informed Convolutional Decoder (PICD): A Novel Approach for Direct Inversion of Heterogeneous Subsurface Flow

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
We propose a physics‐informed convolutional decoder (PICD) framework for inverse modeling of heterogenous groundwater flow. PICD stands out as a direct inversion method, eliminating the need for repeated forward model simulations.

Intelligent Inversion of Deep In Situ Stress Fields Based on the ABC-SVR Algorithm

open access: yesMathematics
Accurate inversion of the deep initial in situ stress field is a fundamental prerequisite for stability analysis of surrounding rock in underground engineering, roadway support design, and prevention and control of dynamic disasters.

Binary structure constrained gravity inversion based on seismic first arrival travel time data

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
Gravity exploration method is one of the important methods for deep mineral resource exploration, but gravity data inversion has limited resolution ability in the vertical direction.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Inversion of Sound Speed Profile Controlled by Sparse Observations: Research Background, Current Status and Technical Analysis

open access: yesOceans
The sound speed profile (SSP) is a core environmental parameter for underwater acoustic detection, navigation, communication, and other applications. However, its accurate acquisition is constrained by the sparsity of observational data and the ill-posed
