An efficient program for modeling, control and optimization of hybrid renewable-conventional energy systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
-In this paper, a generic and an efficient model for hybrid renewable-conventional electrical energy systems is presented. This simulation model is successfully validated by means of HOMER.

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Development and Control of PMSM Drive With Improved Performance Over Wide Speed and Load Ranges

open access: yesIEEE Access
Generally, an inverter fed motor drive is often operated under low speed and/or light loads. Hence, except for good driving characteristics, having evenly high efficiencies over wide load range is also critical for a high-performance motor drive.

HIV‐1 establishes immediate latency in T cells expressing the viral Nef protein

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Nef is a viral protein often omitted from HIV‐1 reporter viruses. Consequently, its role in viral latency is unclear. We developed three novel dual reporter HIV‐1 derivatives that express Nef and allow for detection of latent and productive infection. Using these reporters, we show that Nef does not affect the establishment of immediate viral latency ...

Fault-tolerant design approach for reliable offshore multi-megawatt variable frequency converters

open access: yesJournal of Ocean Engineering and Science, 2016
Inverters play a key role in realizing reliable multi-megawatt power electronic converters used in offshore applications, as their failure leads to production losses and impairs safety.

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

Financial Analysis of a Grid-connected Photovoltaic System in South Florida

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper the performance and financial analysis of a grid-connected photovoltaic system installed at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) is evaluated. The power plant has the capacity of 14.8 kW and has been under operation since August 2014.

Cutaneous Melanoma Drives Metabolic Changes in the Aged Bone Marrow Immune Microenvironment

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, increasingly affects older adults. Our study reveals that melanoma induces changes in iron and lipid levels in the bone marrow, impacting immune cell populations and increasing susceptibility to ferroptosis.

Inverted hierarchical model of neutrino masses revisited

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 2003
In this letter we highlight the inherent problems associted with the inverted hierarchical model of neutrinos with only three generations and suggest possible solutions within the MSSM. we discuss the new parametrisation of the solar mixing angle which can identify the light side and dark side of the data.

Impact of APOE ε4 Genotype Load on Cognitive Function and Lipid Metabolism in Patients With Cerebral Small Vessel Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Apolipoprotein ε4 (APOE ε4) is a potent genetic risk factor for Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, its role in cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) remains unclear. Given the clinical and pathological similarities between CSVD and AD, this study aimed to investigate the associations of APOE ε4 gene dosage with cognitive function and
