Bayesian sampling design for contaminated land investigation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The problem of sampling design for contaminated land investigation is approached using Bayesian methods. We develop a decision tool designed to aid site investigators and decision makers in the process of site investigation.

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Investigations of Higher Order Links

open access: yes, 2016
The following is an amalgamation of four preprints and some computer programs which together represent the current state of our investigations of higher order links. This investigation was motivated by questions discussed and raised in the first author's paper "New States of Matter Suggested by New Topological Structures".

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.

Problems of methodology and explanation in word order universals research

open access: yes, 2010
Ever since the publication of Greenberg 1963, word order typologists have attempted to formulate and refine implicational universals of word order so as to characterize the restricted distribution of certain word order patterns, and in some cases have ...

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

THE EUROPEAN INVESTIGATION ORDER IN CRIMINAL MATTERS - GROUNDS FOR NON-RECOGNITION OR NON-EXECUTION [PDF]

open access: yesChallenges of the Knowledge Society, 2018
The European Investigation Order (EIO) is the newest mechanism for judicial cooperation in criminal matters. This instrument was laid out in the Directive 2014/41/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 3 April 2014 and was transposed into ...

Structural investigations of ordered aggregates

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2007
Ordered aggregation of proteins is a common property of proteins. On the one hand, the formation of ordered protein aggregation in inclusion bodies or the aggresome seem to play a protective mechanism against toxicity. On the other hand the formation of amyloid fibrils is associated with a number of devastating diseases such as Alzheimer's disease ...
