European Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.Cyclobutenone derivates and their 4,4‐dichloro counterparts have an uninterrupted attention as useful synthons in the synthesis of complex organic molecules. Their nucleophilic reactions remain underexplored. This review brings attention to these reactions, whose outcome is not straightforward.
