Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

LITERATURE REVIEW: The Use of Cation-Exchange Resins in Natural Water Trace Metals Research. ARTICLE: Determination of Free Ion Trace Metal Concentrations in Freshwaters Using Cation-Exchange Resin Equilibrium. A Preliminary Investigation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
LITERATURE REVIEW: The desire to measure low metal concentrations in natural waters stems principally from the aim to understand the effects of trace metals on aquatic biota and to understand the fate of metal pollutants. Trace metals rarely exist in the

Suppression of lung adenocarcinoma migration through organelle alkalization by human lactoferrin – albumin fusion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This paper reveals how human lactoferrin–albumin fusion (hLF‐HSA) potently suppresses lung adenocarcinoma cell migration. hLF‐HSA upregulates NHE7, leading to Golgi alkalization, disruption of the Golgi secretome, downregulation of MMP1, and reversal of EMT. These findings suggest a novel Golgi‐targeting strategy to suppress cancer cell migration.

The crystal structure of the Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase BBE22 resolves a long‐standing annotation error

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase (PncA/BBE22) reveals the correct full‐length protein initiated from a non‐canonical AUU start codon. The structure validates previous biochemical findings and resolves a long‐standing annotation error, demonstrating that the truncated database sequence is structurally incompatible with the ...

The ion exchange behaviour of beryllium salicylate complexes.

open access: yes, 1962
As part of a general study of the co-ordination chemistry of beryllium, the beryllium salicylate complexes have been investigated by ion exchange procedures. The evidence indicates that a neutral 1 : 1 and an anionic 1 : 2 chelate exist in solution under

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

Preparation of Deuterated Cation Exchange Resin by Ion Exchange

open access: yesHe huaxue yu fangshe huaxue
During the operation of the spallation neutron source, heavy water used as a coolant can introduce impurities. Direct purification of heavy water using conventional ion exchange resins can lead to the displacement of H+/OH−, thereby reducing the purity ...

Fission product separation from beryllium by ion exchange.

open access: yes, 1966
An ion—exchange process has been developed on the laboratory scale for the separation of low level fission product activity from beryllium in aqueous nitrate solution.
