Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Potentiometric Determination of Alprazolam based on Carbon Paste and PVC membrane Electrodes

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2012
In this work, two kinds of potentiometric sensors, based on PVC membrane and carbon paste electrodes, have been introduced. Both sensors respond according to the ion-exchange mechanism.

Preparation and Structures of Crystalline Aromatic Cation-Radical Salts. Triethyloxonium Hexachloroantimonate as a Novel (One-Electron) Oxidant [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Triethyloxonium hexachloroantimonate [Et3O+SbCl6-] is a selective oxidant of aromatic donors (ArH), and it allows the facile preparation and isolation of crystalline paramagnetic salts [ArH+•, SbCl6-] for the X-ray structure determination of various ...

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Four pi-recoil proportional counter used as neutron spectrometer [PDF]

open access: yes, 1968
Study considers problems encountered in using 4 pi-recoil counters for neutron spectra measurement. Emphasis is placed on calibration, shape discrimination, variation of W, the average energy loss per ion pair, and the effects of differentiation on the ...

Discovery and Targeted Proteomic Studies Reveal Striatal Markers Validated for Huntington's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Clinical trials for Huntington's disease (HD) enrolling persons before clinical motor diagnosis (CMD) lack validated biomarkers. This study aimed to conduct an unbiased discovery analysis and a targeted examination of proteomic biomarkers scrutinized by clinical validation. Methods Cerebrospinal fluid was obtained from PREDICT‐HD and

Bisguanidinium dinuclear oxodiperoxomolybdosulfate ion pair-catalyzed enantioselective sulfoxidation

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
Peroxomolybdates can be used as catalysts, but to date have not been employed in catalytic asymmetric transformations. Here the authors report that peroxomolybdates with a chiral bisguanidinium salts are active catalysts for asymmetric sulfoxidation, and

An analysis at mesospheric coherent-scatter power enhancements during solar flare events [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
Solar flares produce increases in coherent-scatter power from the mesosphere due to the increase in free electrons produced by X-ray photoionization. Thirteen such power enhancements were observed at Urbana. When such an enhancement occurs at an altitude
