Emergent Spin‐Glass Behavior in an Iron(II)‐Based Metal–Organic Framework Glass
A one‐pot, solvent‐free synthesis yields an Fe2+‐based metal‐organic framework (MOF) glass featuring a continuous random network structure. The material exhibits spin‐glass freezing at 14 K, driven by topological‐disorder and short‐range magnetic frustration, showcasing the potential of MOF glasses as a plattform for cooperative magnetic phenomena in ...

A "working definition" for an ion-pair has been derived based upon analysis of the distance distributions for like- and oppositely charged groups in 38 proteins. Ion-pairs defined according to this criterion (less than or equal to 4 A between charged groups) have been analysed in respect of: (1) the frequencies of different pair types; (2) the residue ...

In water, positive ions attract negative ions. That attraction can be modulated if a hydrophobic surface is present near the two ions in water. Using computer simulations with explicit and implicit water, we study how an ion embedded on a hydrophobic surface interacts with another nearby ion in water.

The present state of ion-pair chromatography (IPC) is reviewed. Emphasis is placed on the theoretical modeling of the retention behavior of charged, zwitterionic, and neutral solutes, since the theory provides the generally good understanding of the factors affecting the separation.

Contact Ion Pair Formation Is Not Necessarily Stronger than Solvent Shared Ion Pairing
The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters, 2022Vibrational sum frequency spectroscopy (VSFS) and pressure-area Langmuir trough measurements were used to investigate the binding of alkali metal cations to eicosyl sulfate (ESO4) surfactants in monolayers at the air/water interface. The number density of sulfate groups could be tuned by mixing the anionic surfactant with eicosanol.

In the present article we briefly review the extensive discussion in literature about the presence or absence of ion pair-like aggregates in ionic liquids. While some experimental studies point towards the presence of neutral subunits in ionic liquids, many other experiments cannot confirm or even contradict their existence.
