Addition of H_2O and O_2 to Acetone and Dimethylsulfoxide Ligated Uranyl(V) Dioxocations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Gas-phase complexes of the formula [UO_2(lig)]^+ (lig = acetone (aco) or dimethylsulfoxide (dmso)) were generated by electrospray ionization (ESI) and studied by tandem ion-trap mass spectrometry to determine the general effect of ligand charge donation ...

Models of electrolyte solutions from molecular descriptions: The example of NaCl solutions

open access: yes, 2009
We present a method to derive implicit solvent models of electrolyte solutions from all-atom descriptions; providing analytical expressions of the thermodynamic and structural properties of the ions consistent with the underlying explicit solvent ...

Integration of genetics into a systems model of electrocardiographic traits using humanCVD BeadChip [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012

Background—Electrocardiographic traits are important, substantially heritable determinants of risk of arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death.

Methods and Results—In this study, 3 population-based cohorts (n=10 526) genotyped ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

EPIPACTIS × SCHMALHAUSENII K. RICHT. (ORCHIDACEAE), A NEWLY IDENTIFED TAXON IN ROMANIAN FLORA [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Plant Development, 2019
The authors reports the presence in the Romanian wild flora of the nothospecies Epipactis × schmalhausenii. This taxon of hybrid origin (Epipactis atrorubens × E. helleborine subsp. helleborine) was recently identified, together with the two genitors, on

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Ion Channels and Personalized Medicine in Gynecological Cancers

open access: yesPharmaceuticals, 2023
Targeted therapy against cancer plays a key role in delivering safer and more efficient treatments. In the last decades, ion channels have been studied for their participation in oncogenic processes because their aberrant expression and/or function have ...

How Multivalency controls Ionic Criticality

open access: yes, 2005
To understand how multivalency influences the reduced critical temperatures, Tce (z), and densities, roce (z), of z : 1 ionic fluids, we study equisized hard-sphere models with z = 1-3.
