Dual beam ion irradiation response of low activation thin films of nanocrystalline W-Ti-Based compositionally complex alloys

open access: yesMaterials & Design
Recently, compositionally complex alloys (CCAs) have been proposed as material candidates for extreme environments, such as for fission or fusion. To explore low activation designed W-Ti-based CCA systems, two new nanocrystalline CCA thin films were ...

Nanoscale Spatial Tuning of Superconductivity in Cuprate Thin Films via Direct Laser Writing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Maskless direct laser writing enables local control of oxygen stoichiometry in epitaxial YBCO thin films under ambient conditions. Sub‐micrometer grayscale patterns with tunable optical response and superconducting transport properties are achieved.

Performance of 4H–SiC radiation detector after high flux proton and Fe13+ heavy ion beam irradiation

open access: yesJournal of Radiation Research and Applied Sciences
A batch of Schottky diode 4H–SiC detectors was fabricated by using Ni/Au electrodes, which were irradiated by Fe13+ heavy ion beam current with a flux of 1 × 1013 n/cm2 to 4.35 × 1014 n/cm2 in a stepwise increment, the forward and reverse I–V ...

The enhanced low resistance contacts and boosted mobility in two-dimensional p-type WSe2 transistors through Ar+ ion-beam generated surface defects

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2016
We intentionally generated surface defects in WSe2 using a low energy argon (Ar+) ion-beam. We were unable to detect any changes in lattice structure through Raman spectroscopy as expected through simulation.

Si‐Doped Nanocrystalline Diamond as Highly Sensitive Luminescence Thermometer for the Physiological Temperature Range

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, diamonds with negative charged silicon‐vacancy (SiV−) centers have been designed for use as thermometers in biomedical applications. Multiparametric analysis of the emission characteristics of the SiV− centers provides extraordinary sensitivity for temperature detection in the physiological temperature range.

High‐Performance n‐Type Organic Thermoelectrics Enabled by Control Over Microstructure, Orientation and Contact Plane in Naphthalenediimide‐Bithiazole‐Copolymer Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Effective control over the crystalline contact plane and microstructure of a naphthalenediimide‐bithiazole copolymer enables high‐performance n‐type thermoelectrics. While rubbing alignment induces a detrimental edge‐on orientation, subsequent solvent vapor‐induced re‐orientation facilitates a favorable mixed face‐on/edge‐on morphology.
