Model Hydrophobic Ion Exchange Membrane

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 1973
Two models of hydrophobic ion exchange membranes were examined theoretically with regard to the characteristics of cellulose acetate-nitrate membranes saturated with hydrophobic solvents. The first model, consisting of fixed negative sites dispersed in a homogeneous medium of low dielectric constant, was shown to be invalid for the experimental ...

Microglial dynamics and ferroptosis induction in human iPSC‐derived neuron–astrocyte–microglia tri‐cultures

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A tri‐culture of iPSC‐derived neurons, astrocytes, and microglia treated with ferroptosis inducers as an Induced ferroptosis model was characterized by scRNA‐seq, cell survival, and cytokine release assays. This analysis revealed diverse microglial transcriptomic changes, indicating that the system captures key aspects of the complex cellular ...

Chromium-Modified Heterogeneous Bipolar Membrane: Structure, Characteristics, and Practical Application in Electrodialysis

open access: yesMembranes, 2023
The modification of an MB-2 bipolar ion exchange membrane with chromium (III) hydroxide was carried out by a chemical method, namely, by the sequential treatment of the membrane with a solution of chromium (III) salt and alkali.

From conventional membrane electrodes to ion-sensitive field-effect transistors [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
The theory concerning conventional membrane electrodes is often used as a starting point for the theoretical description of the operation of an ion-sensitive field-effect transistor.

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

QPVA-Based Electrospun Anion Exchange Membrane for Fuel Cells

open access: yesInternational Journal of Renewable Energy Development, 2023
The anion exchange membrane is one of the core components that play a crucial and inseparable role in alkaline anion exchange membrane fuel cells. Anion exchange membranes (AEMs) were prepared from quaternary ammonium poly(vinyl alcohol) (QPVA) by an ...

Alpha- and beta-adrenergic mediation of changes in metabolism and Na/K exchange in rat brown fat [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
Double- and triple-barreled ion-sensitive microelectrodes were used to measure changes in extracellular K+ and Na+ concentrations ([K+]o, [Na+]o) in brown fat.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.
