It has to be expected that both ions and electrons will damage specimens under examination to a greater or lesser degree. Electrons are low in mass but can travel at velocities which are a significant fraction of the speed of light. In general, electrons do not significantly damage metallic or inorganic specimens, but even relatively low doses of ...

What Ion Is Generated When Ionizing Acetonitrile?
The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2005It has long been assumed that ionizing neutral acetonitrile produces ions with the same atomic connectivity, CH(3)CN(+*). Recent calculations on the C(2)H(3)N(+*) potential energy surface have suggested that it may be difficult to generate pure CH(3)CN(+*) when ionizing acetonitrile.

Ion Channels in Action Potential Generation
Hospital Practice, 1992Molecular structure-function studies have identified the two key regions--the voltage sensor and pore--of the sodium and potassium channels responsible for the action potential in nerve axon. Mutational analysis has focused on the amino acids that are most important in each region. Similar studies in myocytes and nerve cell bodies are now being pursued.

A working hypothesis for negative ion generators
Experientia, 1983The effects of negative ion generators may be explained by reactions of carbonate radical anion, or alternatively, by physical factors such as the electric field of the ions generated by these apparatuses.

Pulse generator for ion implantation
Digest of Technical Papers. 11th IEEE International Pulsed Power Conference (Cat. No.97CH36127), 2002Plasma source ion implantation (PSII) requires a high-power pulse generator (megawatts average power and peak pulse power of over 5 MVA) that is efficient, very reliable and robust. The robustness is required because plasma arcs, spits and sputters.

Rates of ion generation in flames
Symposium (International) on Combustion, 1969Saturation currents have been measured for a variety of diffusion and pre-mixed flames whose reactants included various hydrocarbons, H2 and CO2 burning in air or oxygen, with and without additives such as N2, CO2, Br2, K, Na, and Pb. The objective was to provide absolute ionization rates for practical purposes and to elucidate mechanism, free from ...

A General Introduction to Lanthanide Ions
2013Lanthanide (Ln) ions are long known as the lighting elements. Their intricate optical properties originate primarily from the unique features of their electronic [Xe]4f N configurations (N = 0–14), which have very localized states and can be conventionally described within the framework of crystal-field theory.
