A Comparison of Electrical, Fusion-Generated-Ion, and Fission-Generated-Ion ICF Drivers

In this paper, arguments are presented for various inertial confinement fusion laser systems (electrical driven laser, ion-generated by fusion reactions — driven laser, and ion-generated by fission reactions-driven laser) which show that high plant efficiencies can be achieved with low efficiency fission-generated-ion driven lasers 0.5%.

Ions are injected into an insulating liquid and pumped into a collector, which assumes a high potential. Results of a theoretical treatment of this arrangement are compared with experimental evidence. While the generator has low energy conversion efficiency, it possesses a number of compensating advantages.
