Designing Polymer Nanocomposites for X‐Ray Shielding: Mechanisms, Architectures, and Scalable Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights advances in lightweight, lead‐free polymer nanocomposites for diagnostic X‐ray shielding. By linking filler chemistry, dispersion, architecture, and photon interaction mechanisms, it establishes structure–performance relationships guiding material design.

A New Strategy Coupling Ion-Mobility-Selective CID and Cryogenic IR Spectroscopy to Identify Glycan Anomers [PDF]

open access: yes
Determining the primary structure of glycans remains challenging due to their isomeric complexity. While high-resolution ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) has recently allowed distinguishing between many glycan isomers, the arrival-time distributions (ATDs)

Triple Junctions as Dislocation‐Like Defects: The Role of Grain Boundary Crystallography Revealed by Experiment and Atomistic Simulation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Grain boundary triple junctions are an essential ingredient of the microstructure of polycrystalline materials. In this study, a triple junction is observed using atomic‐resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy and characterized. Computer simulations reveal that the junction has a dislocation character that is determined by the joining ...

Electrified Damage in Motion Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The electrified damage in motion systems is a fundamental framework presenting the degradation pathway arising from the coupling of electrical energy transport with mechanical contact and interfacial chemistry. The framework positions electrified damage as a distinct degradation regime with unique characteristic surface morphologies and failures of ...

Hybrid Metal–Carbon Ink for Printed Stretchable Temperature Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We prepare conductive inks for temperature sensing with silver flakes and carbon or graphite flakes in a silicone elastomer matrix. Silver dominates the temperature‐dependent conductivity, while the carbon filler network ensures the stability of the conductive pathways and retains function under strain.

Ion mobility and mass spectrometric investigations of organophosphates related to chemical warfare agents and pesticides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A commercial Ion Mobility Spectrometer that is designed to detect Chemical Warfare Agents (CWAs), is modified by the addition of a second ion gate, and connected to a commercial Ion Trap Mass Spectrometer (ITMS).

Probing High-Order Transient Oligomers using Ion Mobility Mass Spectrometry coupled to Infrared Action Spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes
Understanding and controlling peptide aggregation is critical due to its neurotoxic implications. However, structural information on the key intermediates, the oligomers, is obscured by a cascade of coinciding events occurring at various time and energy ...

Gas Phase Stability of Protein Ions in a Cyclic Ion Mobility Spectrometry Travelling Wave Device [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Ion mobility mass spectrometry (IM-MS) allows separation of native protein ions into “conformational families”. Increasing the IM resolving power should allow finer structural information to be obtained, and can be achieved by increasing the length of ...

Superlubricity and Corrosion Inhibition Properties of Solvate Ionic Liquids in Hybrid Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic–Steel Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Solvate ionic liquids lubrication reduced the coefficient of friction by ∼60% compared to dry sliding, reaching steady‐state values as low as 0.04–0.05. Corrosion weight‐loss measurements in 1 M HCl further demonstrated significant inhibition behavior, with only 100 ppm of [Li(G3)][TFSI] (∼68.5 μL/L) reducing corrosion‐product weight loss by 63 ...
