Ion Selectivity in Voltage-gated Biological Ion Channels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We demonstrate that a combination of calculating the exact electrostatic potential and approximate volume exclusion within the sub-nanometer selectivity filter of a biological ion channel is critical for estimating the selectivity of the ion channel ...

Ion Association Effects of Lipophilic Quaternary Ammonium Salts in Ion-Exchange and Potentiometric Selectivity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Strong effects of ion association on the anion-exchange selectivity in systems water -solutions of high quaternary ammonium salts (QAS) in organic solvents as well as on the potentiometric selectivity of plasticized polyvinylchloride (PVC) membranes ...

Field Report from Collaborative Research Center 1625: Heterogeneous Research Data Management Using Ontology Representations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A unified research data management framework for heterogeneous materials data is presented. The system integrates multimodal datasets using ontologies and knowledge graphs, enabling interoperability and FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) data principles. By linking data across scales and workflows, it supports reproducible, Artifitial

In situ potassium and hydrogen ion exchange into a cubic zirconium silicate microporous material.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
The selective separation of ions from aqueous systems, and even in the human body, is a crucial to overall environmental management and health. Nanoporous materials are widely known for their selective removal of cations from aqueous media, and therefore

Time‐Dependent Oxidation and Scale Evolution of a Wrought Co/Ni‐Based Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows how a new wrought Co/Ni‐based superalloy resists oxidation at 800 ∘$^\circ$C. The oxide scale changes from rough, fast‐growing spinel to a dense, protective chromia–alumina layer. Atom probe analysis reveals tiny refractory‐rich bubbles at the interface that mark the transition to long‐term, diffusion‐controlled protection ...

Modular Critical Element Recycling Platform Using a Nanoporous Additively Manufactured Gyroid

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A modular recycling platform integrates 3D‐printed nanoporous gyroid structures to enable efficient critical element recovery. This system utilizes a hierarchical architecture, combining macroscopic channels with polymerization‐induced nanoscale porosity. By systematically tuning structural wall thickness and resin formulation, the platform achieves an

Ion-exchange and hydrophobic interactions affecting selectivity for neutral and charged solutes on three structurally similar agglomerated ion-exchange and mixed-mode stationary phases

open access: yes, 2013
The nature and extent of mixed-mode retention mechanisms evident for three structurally related, agglomerated, particle-based stationary phases were evaluated.

A New Polyethylene Corrosion Protecting Coating with Ion Selectivity

open access: yes, 2011
Linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) was chemically modified with grafting maleic anhydride (MAH) monomer on its backbone by melting blending. Nano-particles SiO2 was modified by cationic surfactant hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) and ...

Electrochemical Behavior of Flame‐Sprayed Sc‐Doped AlCoCrFeMo High‐Entropy Alloy Coatings in 3.5% Sodium Chloride Solution

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Scandium (Sc)‐doped AlCoCrFeMo HEA coatings are fabricated via flame spraying with 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5 wt% Sc additions. Among these, the HEA‐Sc0.3 coating exhibits the highest corrosion resistance, indicated by a more positive corrosion potential and lower current density.

Assembly of vermiculite/SnO2 composite membranes with high ion selectivity for enhancing osmotic energy conversion performance

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials
For osmotic energy harvesting based on nanofluidic membranes, aqueous instability, less-than-optimal ion selectivity, and moderately high internal resistance can somewhat restrict its performance advancement.
