Ligand-gated ion channels: mechanisms underlying ion selectivity
Anion/cation selectivity is a critical property of ion channels and underpins their physiological function. Recently, there have been numerous mutagenesis studies, which have mapped sites within the ion channel-forming segments of ligand-gated ion ...

Ion‐molecule reactions of mass‐selected ions
Mass Spectrometry Reviews, 2022AbstractGas‐phase reactions of mass‐selected ions with neutrals covers a very broad area of fundamental and applied mass spectrometry (MS). Oftentimes, ion‐molecule reactions (IMR) can serve as a viable alternative to collision‐induced dissociation and other ion dissociation techniques when using tandem MS.

Selective liquid ion-exchangers
Journal of Biochemical Toxicology, 1963AbstractWater‐insoluble long‐chain derivatives of various complexing agents have been prepared, and their solutions in organic solvents have been tested as selective liquid ion‐exchangers. Polymers swollen with these solutions were tried as solid ion‐exchangers in packed columns. In some cases rapid separations of metals were obtained.

Calibration of ion-selective microelectrodes
American Journal of Physiology-Cell Physiology, 1992Measurements of intracellular and extracellular ion activities with ion-selective microelectrodes generally involve calibration of the electrodes in solutions of known composition and fitting of the calibration data with a theoretical expression. The Nicolsky equation is frequently used to describe the variation of electrode potential with primary ion

Ion selectivity in potassium channels
Biophysical Chemistry, 2006Potassium channels are tetrameric membrane-spanning proteins that provide a selective pore for the conduction of K(+) across the cell membranes. One of the main physiological functions of potassium channels is efficient and very selective transport of K(+) ions through the membrane to the cell. Classical views of ion selectivity are summarized within a
