Functional comparison of EncB and EncC cargo proteins in iron storage within the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Encapsulins are protein nanocompartments that play an important role in iron storage. In the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin system, two cargo proteins called EncB and EncC contribute to iron mineralization. Here, we show that EncB and EncC generate iron‐containing minerals with distinct chemical compositions, suggesting that the composition of stored ...

FMI-43 is a permeant blocker of mechanosensitive ion channels in sensory neurons and inhibits behavioural responses to mechanical stimuli [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The molecular identity and pharmacological properties of mechanically gated ion channels in sensory neurons are poorly understood. We show that FM1-43, a styryl dye used to fluorescently label cell membranes, permeates mechanosensitive ion channels in ...

Determinants of ion selectivity in ASIC1a- and ASIC2a-containing acid-sensing ion channels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Trimeric acid-sensing ion channels (ASICs) contribute to neuronal signaling by converting extracellular acidification into excitatory sodium currents. Previous work with homomeric ASIC1a implicates conserved leucine (L7') and consecutive glycine-alanine ...

Magnesium Selective Ion Channels [PDF]

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 2007
The homeostasis of intracellular ion concentrations within physiological limits is one fundamental characteristic of any living organism. Magnesium, an alkaline earth metal, is well known to stabilize macromolecule structure and to participate as an essential cofactor in many enzymatic reactions.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Pengaruh Jumlah Mol Kroslinker Pada Selektifitas IIP Berbasis Polieugenol Terhadap Fe(III)

open access: yesAlchemy, 2018
Sintesis Ionic Imprinted Polymer (IIP) dilakukan dengan variasi penambahan crosslinker PEGDE (Polyethylene glycol diglycidilether) yang kemudian diuji selektivitas IIP terhadap ion logam Fe melalui proses adsorpsi. IIP merupakan metode mencetak ion logam

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

PAK1 activation drives divergent resistance mechanisms to aromatase inhibition and tamoxifen in a luminal: A breast cancer model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer remains a major cause of cancer death in women, frequently developing endocrine therapy resistance. This study demonstrates that upregulated p21‐activated kinase 1 (PAK1) activity drives resistance to tamoxifen and long‐term estrogen deprivation in ER+ breast cancer models.

The Theory of Ion-Selective Electrodes

open access: yesAnalytical Sciences, 1998
The paper discusses the anomalies of the former interpretation of the working mechanism of ion-selective electrodes. It was thoroughly discussed why the Donnan experiment could not be applied as the theoretical background of glass electrodes. It was assumed according to the Donnan interpretation that the measurable potential is produced by the transfer
