A study of the effects of external pressure on the electrical performance of a lithium-ion pouch cell [PDF]
The introduction of lithium-ion batteries for vehicle powertrain electrification has increased in recent years. They feature high energy density, high power density, long cycle life, and is also environmentally friendly compared with other types of ...

Ion Implantation At Elevated Temperatures [PDF]
ABSTRACTA kinetic model has been developed to investigate the synergistic effects of radiation-enhanced diffusion, radiation-induced segregation and preferential sputtering on the spatial redistribution of implanted solutes during implantation at elevated temperatures. Sample calculations were performed for Al+ and Si+ ions implanted into Ni.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Measurement of MAST edge ion temperatures and velocities [PDF]
A novel experimental method using gas puffing of neutrals to stimulate charge exchange emission has been developed to measure ion temperatures and toroidal rotation velocities in the edge of MAST.

An analysis of pump-induced artificial ionospheric ion upwelling at EISCAT [PDF]
Ion outflow from the high-latitude ionosphere is a well-known phenomenon and an important source of plasma for the magnetosphere. It is also well known that pumping the ionosphere with high-power high-frequency radio waves causes electron heating.
