Fragility, Stokes-Einstein violation, and correlated local excitations in a coarse-grained model of an ionic liquid

open access: yes, 2010
Dynamics of a coarse-grained model for the room-temperature ionic liquid, 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate, couched in the united-atom site representation are studied via molecular dynamics simulations.

Adjustment of Coatings Morphology and Particle Distribution of Layered Silicates by Freeze‐Drying for Improved Gas Barriers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Freeze‐drying of layered silicate is the key to get coatings with superior gas barrier. Freeze‐drying of layered silicates modified with dodecylamine (DDA) is a highly effective technique for the preparation of barrier pigments that significantly mitigate the permeation of oxygen, water vapor, and hydrogen through polymer films containing these ...

Exploring Microstructure–Physical Property–Corrosion Response Relationship in Intermetallic Compounds of Al‐Cu Bimetallic Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Al‐Cu intermetallic compounds (IMCs) have a significant influence on the properties of Al‐Cu bimetallic interfaces formed in compound casting. This article provides a deeper understanding of microstructure, crystallography, thermal properties, hardness, and corrosion response of Al‐Cu IMCs with the goal of facilitating the optimization of the ...

Advancing Research on Biomaterials and Biological Materials with Scanning Electron Microscopy under Environmental and Low Vacuum Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) is discussed as a powerful extension of conventional SEM for life sciences. By combining high‐resolution imaging with variable pressure and humidity, ESEM allows the analysis of untreated biological materials, supports in situ monitoring of hydration‐driven changes, and advances the functional ...

Ionic liquid-mediated removal of naphthenic acids from crude oil: Process modelling and optimization

open access: yesResults in Chemistry
The present study demonstrated the efficiency of ionic liquid in the removal of naphthenic acids from crude oil. The crude oil sample was obtained from Belema oil field in Southern Nigeria while tetramethyl ammonium hydroxide pentahydrate (TMAH) ionic ...

Effects of liquid ionic silver concentration on caspase-3 and p53mt expressions in the oral mucosal epithelium of Wistar rats

open access: yesDental Journal, 2018
Background: Silver, especially oxidized silver, has been used as a medicine considered to have bactericidal properties. In the present day, ionic silver (Ag+) is also used in the manufacture of cosmetics, socks, food containers, detergents, sprays and ...

The liquid-vapor interface of an ionic fluid

open access: yes, 1997
We investigate the liquid-vapor interface of the restricted primitive model (RPM) for an ionic fluid using a density-functional approximation based on correlation functions of the homogeneous fluid as obtained from the mean-spherical approximation (MSA).

Bimetallic (NiFe) and Trimetallic (NiFeCr) Nanoalloys from Metal Oxides Using a Microwave Hydrogen Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Bimetallic (NiFe) and trimetallic (NiFeCr) nanoalloys (NAs) are synthesized using corresponding oxide mixtures using microwave hydrogen plasma within a few milliseconds. The process simultaneously 1) reduces metal oxides to metals; 2) downsizes the particles from micrometers to nanometers; and 3) blends the metals to form NAs.
