Post-flare UV light curves explained with thermal instability of loop plasma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In the present work we study the C8 flare occurred on September 26, 2000 at 19:49 UT and observed by the SOHO/SUMER spectrometer from the beginning of the impulsive phase to well beyond the disappearance in the X-rays.

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Application of a New Silica Gel Ionization Intensifier on Nanogram Lead Isotope Analysis

open access: yesYankuang ceshi, 2014
In nuclear forensics the amount of Pb to be analyzed is usually in the order of several nanograms; that is >10-3 of ionization efficiency is required for mass spectrometry measurements.

Stability and Evolution of Supernova Fallback Disks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We show that thin accretion disks made of Carbon or Oxygen are subject to the same thermal ionization instability as Hydrogen and Helium disks. We argue that the instability applies to disks of any metal content.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Thermo-Resistive Instability of Hot Planetary Atmospheres

open access: yes, 2012
The atmospheres of hot Jupiters and other strongly-forced exoplanets are susceptible to a thermal instability in the presence of ohmic dissipation, weak magnetic drag and strong winds.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Reliability assessment of high-power GaN-HEMT devices with different buffers under influence of gate bias and high-temperature tests

open access: yesApplied Physics Express
This study compares Vth-instability in D-mode MIS-HEMT devices between two epitaxial layers, AlN/AlGaN/GaN superlattice-W1, and three-step graded AlGaN-W2.

Possible role of magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling in auroral arc generation [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2000
Three models for the magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling feedback instability are considered. The first model is based on demagnetization of hot ions in the plasma sheet.

Stability of small-scale baryon perturbations during cosmological recombination [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In this paper, we study small-scale fluctuations (baryon pressure sound waves) in the baryon fluid during recombination. In particular, we look at their evolution in the presence of relative velocities between baryons and photons on large scales ($k \sim
