Multi‐Instrument Investigation of the Pre‐Seismic Ionospheric Response to 2021 Haiti Earthquake

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 12, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract The study of pre‐seismic variations in the ionosphere due to 2021 Haiti earthquake (Mw = 7.2) is carried out using ground and space‐based instruments. The day time ionospheric response is analyzed using Vertical Total Electron Content (VTEC) from IGS stations and electron density from Swarm satellite data.

Outbreak of Gigantic Jets Over an Isolated Thunderstorm in South China

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 12, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract On the evening of 18 August 2022, a sequence of five gigantic jets (GJs) were recorded within 7 min over an isolated coastal thunderstorm approximately 170 km to the southwest of Luoding County, Guangdong Province of China. The thunderstorm exhibited a higher −10°C isotherm altitude (500 m above average), a significant CAPE value (∼2,158 J/kg),

Multiple‐Event Study of Substorm Electric Field Penetration Into Middle Latitudes Based on Simultaneous Observation of 630‐nm Airglow Enhancements at Three Stations

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 130, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract It is known that convection electric fields develop in the polar region associated with substorm onset, and a westward electric field penetrates to lower latitudes on the night side. Two‐dimensional observations of 630‐nm airglow enhancements associated with the westward electric field can be conducted using all‐sky cameras at middle latitudes.

Daytime Thermospheric Wind Transients and Circulation in May 2021

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 130, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract Changes in the thermospheric wind originating in storm‐time transients in high‐latitude Joule heating and ion circulation are effective in modifying conditions throughout Earth's upper atmosphere and ionosphere. Among the effects these drivers can produce are large‐scale gravity waves (GWs), characterized by significant wind transients that ...

Scaling of Ion Outflow Speed and Ion Bulk Heating in Lobe Reconnection and Their Relations to Shear Flow

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 130, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract Magnetic reconnection at the high‐latitude magnetopause is accompanied by velocity shear due to the tailward flow of the magnetosheath. This study investigates 24 high‐latitude magnetopause reconnection events observed by the Cluster satellites and examines how ion outflow speed and ion bulk heating depend on the upstream Alfvénic parameters ...

Accurate Spectral Fitting in the Upper F‐Region Using the Randomly Coded Data of the Arecibo 430 MHz Radar

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 130, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract Accurately resolving the ion composition in the upper F2 region and topside ionosphere remains a challenge due to temperature‐composition ambiguity and measurement limitations. This study presents a hybrid fitting algorithm that combines exhaustive dictionary search with gradient descent to improve the estimation of incoherent scatter spectrum

A Global Map of Average Electron Densities in the Magnetosphere of Saturn

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 130, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract Measurements from the Cassini Radio and Plasma Wave Science (RPWS) experiment obtained during the entire orbital phase of the Cassini mission around Saturn (13.2 years) are processed into a meridional map of plasma densities, comprising the innermost region of the ring ionosphere, the Enceladus plasma torus, and the outer magnetosphere, up to ...

Dominant Trends in Jupiter's H3+ ${\mathbf{H}}_{\mathbf{3}}^{\mathbf{+}}$ Northern Aurora: II. Magnetospheric Mapping

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 130, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract Jupiter's auroral regions have previously been defined by broad‐scale auroral structures, but these are typically obscured by the wide array of temporal variability observed at timescales between minutes and days, making it difficult to understand the underlying magnetospheric biases driving these brightness differences.
