Experiments with security and privacy in IoT networks

2015 IEEE 16th International Symposium on A World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks (WoWMoM), 2015
We explore the risks to security and privacy in IoT networks by setting up an inexpensive home automation network and performing a set of experiments intended to study attacks and defenses. We focus on privacy preservation in home automation networks but our insights can extend to other IoT applications. Privacy preservation is fundamental to achieving

Assistive IoT: Enhancing Human Experiences

2017
Our perception of the world and what goes on around us is a function of obtaining information through our senses, which is then processed and interpreted through the use of our cognitive abilities and memory. Mobility is also dependent on perception, along with the motor and other skills and abilities. While we heavily rely on our sensory and cognitive

Modeling Quality of IoT Experience in Autonomous Vehicles

IEEE Internet of Things Journal, 2020
Today’s research on Quality of Experience (QoE) mainly addresses multimedia services. With the introduction of the Internet of Things (IoT), there is a need for new ways of evaluating the QoE. Emerging IoT services, such as autonomous vehicles (AVs), are more complex and involve additional quality requirements, such as those related to machine-to ...

Operational Experience with IOTs at Alba Synchrotron

2018
ALBA is a 3 GeV Synchrotron light source in operation since 2012. The RF systems are based in Inductive Output Tube (IOT) transmitters. A total of 13 80 kW IOT amplifiers are used to power the Storage Ring and Booster cavities at 500 MHz. The transmitters were initially configured to operate the TH-793-1 and TH-794 IOT from THALES Electron devices.

Automated Shopping Experience Using Real-Time IoT

2018
Automated shopping experience based on embedded sensors using Raspberry Pi with ultrasonic sensor is introduced. Such a system is well suitable in places like grocery stores, where it can reduce the employee’s requirements to manage the whole place. The main objective is to help consumers to checkout items in real time.

SCUOLA project & IoT Lab: Microgrids experiences at Politecnico di Milano

2016 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT), 2016
To evolve existing networks present in a city (electric, gas, water, public lighting and transport), using ICT as enabling technology, may allow a rational use of natural resources (wind and sun), a reduction of consumption (energy efficiency), as well as the evolution of the energy vectors.
