IP address management

BT Technology Journal, 2000
Anything connected to the Internet needs, at some point, to pick up a globally unique address to identify it among everything else on the Internet. In the case of today's Internet, these addresses are Internet protocol version 4 (IPv4) addresses and they are limited in number.

Populated IP addresses

Proceedings of the 2012 ACM conference on Computer and communications security, 2012
Populated IP addresses (PIP) -- IP addresses that are associated with a large number of user requests are important for online service providers to efficiently allocate resources and to detect attacks. While some PIPs serve legitimate users, many others are heavily abused by attackers to conduct malicious activities such as scams, phishing, and malware

Mobile IP using private IP addresses

Proceedings. Sixth IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communications, 2002
The mobile IP data communication is widely spreading. Accordingly, it is pointed out that the number of IP addresses in IPv4 will be short if every mobile terminal has its IP address. In order to solve this address starvation problem, we propose an approach to realize mobile IP protocol by assigning a private IP address to a mobile terminal.

Mobile IP using private IP address through stateful network address translation

The 6th International Conference on Advanced Communication Technology, 2004., 2004
Mobile networking is becoming popular. The increase in mobile communication makes the lacking problem in number of addresses for IPv4 more serious. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an approach to fulfill a mobile JP protocol by using a stateful NAT (Network address Translation) technology.

Viral IP Address Assignment

Proceedings. 2006 31st IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks, 2006
We propose a viral address assignment scheme for wire-less ad hoc networks. In this scheme, a node has multiple addresses and each address of the node corresponds to a logical location of the node in the network. Further, addresses are allocated in a contagious fashion to mimic a viral growth. We study some of the issues in such a scheme.

Automatic IP address configuration in VANETs

Proceedings of the 3rd international workshop on Vehicular ad hoc networks, 2006
Cars' high mobility and density impede the direct utilization of traditional networking techniques and protocols in vehicular networks. In this context, automatic IP address configuration is a challenging and yet unexplored issue. We propose a novel scheme that exploits the topology of Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) and an enhanced Dynamic Host ...

Routing and Addressing with Length Variable IP Address

Proceedings of the ACM SIGCOMM 2019 Workshop on Networking for Emerging Applications and Technologies, 2019
IP addressing has become the core of Internet since the Internet was invented and its significance has never changed. However, with the dramatic development of Internet in recent years, the conventional IP address is facing with more and more problems, such as address exhaustion, low packet efficiency in Internet of Things, etc.

IP Address Management

2009
IP network connectivity is becoming so important for business that it is being compared today to basic utilities, such as water and electricity. As key enablers of IP network connectivity, IP addresses are positioned today among the most important resources to be managed.
