Institutional and policy bottlenecks to IPM

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Insect Science, 2022
This paper summarises institutional and policy bottlenecks to IPM in Africa. Agricultural policy in Africa generally prioritises production and productivity above environmental sustainability, so the use of synthetic pesticides for controlling pests is encouraged.

Trapping of internal and external feeding stored grain beetle pests with two types of pitfall traps: a two-year field study

open access: yesPlant Protection Science, 2016
Pitfall trapping studies are available for particular stored grain pest species. In small farms, the stored grain pest control strategy is rarely species-specific but is often "pest ecological-group-specific" instead. A two-year field study was conducted

Bioaccumulation of pesticides in carabid beetles in a vineyard and olive grove under integrated pest management

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology
Intensive use of pesticides is among the main drivers of biodiversity loss, especially of insects. Here, field concentrations of chemical synthetic pesticides were measured in soil and carabid beetles in a vineyard (VP) and olive grove (OP), in two ...

Programming Light‐Driven Surface Topographies in Liquid Crystal Elastomers for Potential Biomedical Applications Through Combined Experiments and Simulations

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A combined experimental and simulation study of light‐responsive liquid crystal elastomer surfaces operating under physiological conditions is reported, demonstrating programmable and highly spatially controlled topography formation through bottom‐side photomask exposure. Our study establishes a foundation for dynamic, light‐responsive biosurfaces with

Transferable Deep Reinforcement Learning With Edge‐Contour‐Depth Fusion for Autonomous Wireless Capsule Endoscopy Navigation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents an anatomical landmark‐guided DRL framework for autonomous wireless capsule endoscopy navigation. Using a lightweight edge‐contour‐depth fusion module, it achieves over 97% coverage across diverse gastric anatomies. To ensure reliability, a two‐stage sim‐to‐real pipeline with an adaptive dynamic programming controller mitigates ...

Sublethal effects of some insecticides on the functional response of Aenasius bambawalei Hayat, 2009 (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae)

open access: yesActa Agriculturae Slovenica, 2022
Aenasius bambawalei Hayat, 2009 is one of the most effective natural enemies of Phenacoccus solenopsis Tinsley, 1898. The sublethal effects of dimethoate, imidacloprid, and thiodicarb on the functional response of A.

Thermal Control of Concentric Topographies Patterned by Dynamic Electro‐Templated Generated Chiral Solitonic Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An electro‐templating strategy directs the relaxation of cholesteric finger loops into discrete concentric rings whose geometry is electrically programmed. The photopolymerized structures retain the topological defect pattern and, upon heating, show reversible, castle‐like surface modulation.
