Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs) characteristically consist of mucin-filled dilated ducts lined with neoplastic cells forming papillae with a diverse range of morphologies and varying grades of atypia. Based on morphological characteristics and immunohistochemical reaction against mucin proteins, IPMNs are classified into four distinct ...

Mucin-producing tumors of the pancreas represent a group of premalignant or malignant neoplasms forming multilocular cysts and lined by tall, columnar mucinous epithelium. These tumors are broadly divided into mucinous cystic neoplasms (MCN) and intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN) which have different biologic behavior and pathologic ...

IPMN as a Premalignant Condition
2021Due to the overuse of high-quality cross-sectional imaging, such as CT-scan or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), the prevalence of incidentally discovered pancreatic cystic neoplasms has dramatically risen. Among pancreatic cysts, intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms of the pancreas (IPMNs) have a prevalence ranging from 20% to 80% of cases.

PGE2 in Pancreatic Cyst Fluid Helps Differentiate IPMN from MCN and Predict IPMN Dysplasia
Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery, 2008Current management of intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) according to recently published International Consensus Guidelines depends upon distinguishing it from mucinous cystic neoplasms (MCNs). We have previously shown that prostaglandin E(2) (PGE(2)) is increased in pancreatic cancer tissue over normal controls.
