Two stage reorganization of bone apatite during heating [PDF]
Bone tissue is a natural composite material consisting of organic components (collagen and calcium citrate) and a mineral phase (bone apatite). Infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction are used to study structural changes in the mineral phase of the ...

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Metallicity determination of M dwarfs - High-resolution IR spectroscopy
Context. Several new techniques to determine the metallicity of M dwarfs with better precision have been developed over the last decades. However, most of these studies were based on empirical methods.

Do not let thermal drift and instrument artifacts deceive high‐temperature nanoindentation results. We compare classical Oliver–Pharr and automatic image recognition analyses across steels and a Ni alloy to quantify these effects. Accounting for artifacts reveals systematic softening with temperature, while Cr and Ni additions boost resistance ...

Interface-engineered hole doping in Sr2IrO4/LaNiO3 heterostructure [PDF]
The relativistic Mott insulator Sr2IrO4 driven by large spin-orbit interaction is known for the Jeff = 1/2 antiferromagnetic state which closely resembles the electronic structure of parent compounds of superconducting cuprates.

Nuclear star formation in the quasar PG1126-041 from adaptive optics assisted spectroscopy
We present adaptive optics assisted spectroscopy of three quasars obtained with NACO at VLT. The high angular resolution achieved with the adaptive optics (~0.08"), joined to the diagnostic power of near-IR spectroscopy, allow us to investigate the ...
