Harnessing Fiber Orientation in Agarose‐Encapsulated Polyvinyl Alcohol Hydrogel Film for Superior Function in Artificial Heart Valves: Physicochemical, Mechanical, and In Vitro Biological Studies

open access: yesMedComm – Biomaterials and Applications, Volume 5, Issue 2, June 2026.
A fiber‐oriented polyvinyl alcohol‐agarose (PVA‐AG) hydrogel film was fabricated by shear‐induced alignment at 60°C, exploiting AG crosslinking. The film exhibited anisotropic mechanical properties (tensile modulus 0.33–6.05 MPa, tensile strength 2.63 MPa along the fiber direction), meeting the requirements for pulmonary valve tissue.
