Iron

2021
Iron deficiency anemia affects approximately one-third of the world's population, and about half the cases are due to iron deficiency. The latest research on iron metabolism published in original articles and systematic reviews is described, and references to recent reviews provided.

Iron Metabolism: Iron Deficiency and Iron Overload

Annual Review of Genomics and Human Genetics, 2000
Iron is an essential cofactor in a variety of cellular processes. Except for a few unusual bacterial species, iron is indispensable for living organisms. However, free iron is toxic because of its propensity to induce the formation of dangerous free radicals. Consequently, iron balance is tightly regulated.

Iron deficiency and iron overload

Critical Reviews in Oncology/Hematology, 1985
An up to date review of our knowledge of human iron metabolism is given including problems of iron balance, internal transport, and intracellular mechanisms. Current knowledge of the iron proteins is summarized and this background is used in discussing the pathophysiology of iron deficiency and overload, together with the internal derangements such as ...

Iron and Isoferritins in Iron Overload

Clinical Science, 1982
1. The ferritin content of iron-overloaded tissues was higher than that of normal tissues. There was also an increased iron content of ferritin extracted from these tissues. 2. In the limited number of tissues that we examined haemosiderin deposition appeared to be greater in the iron-overloaded livers than in the iron-overloaded spleens.

Iron-mediated activation of persulfate and peroxymonosulfate in both homogeneous and heterogeneous ways: A review

, 2020
Various organic contaminants accumulated in the environment pose great threat to ecosystems and human health. Sulfate radical-based advanced oxidation processes (SR-AOPs) have attracted increasing attention for the removal of these contaminants in recent

The Effect of Injected Iron on the Absorption of Iron in Iron Deficiency

British Journal of Haematology, 1972
Summary. The effects of injected iron on the absorption of iron by iron deficient animals have been studied. When iron deficiency is partly or fully corrected by injection of iron dextran, prolonged and marked depression of iron absorption follows despite the persistence of iron deficiency.
