Comprehensive Anaemia Profile in Ulcerative Colitis Patients with Varying Disease Severities: A Cross-sectional Study [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research
Introduction: Anaemia is the most common Extraintestinal Manifestation (EIM) associated with Ulcerative Colitis (UC) and has been linked to increased mortality in UC patients, with iron deficiency having the most pronounced effect.

Association of iron deficiency, anaemia, and functional outcomes in patients undergoing edge‐to‐edge mitral valve repair

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, 2020
Aims Patients undergoing percutaneous mitral valve repair (PMVR) show a substantial heterogeneity of prognostic and symptomatic benefit. Iron deficiency and anaemia are associated with worse outcomes in heart failure patients.

PANoptosis in the pathogenesis of myelodysplastic syndromes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PANoptosis, a combination of three types of programmed cell death, is mediated by a large protein complex called a PANoptosome. In healthy bone marrow hematopoietic cells, PANoptosis is restricted by inhibitory signaling. In MDS, bone marrow cells become sensitive to the PANoptotic stimuli due to the aberrant inactivation of inhibitory signaling or ...

Association of Elevated Platelets and C‐Reactive Protein With Severe Disease and Poor Survival in Systemic Sclerosis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Elevated C‐reactive protein (CRP) levels in systemic sclerosis (SSc) have been linked with severe disease and worse survival, but the role of platelet levels remains unclear. This study examined whether elevated platelet levels, CRP levels, or both are associated with disease severity, progression, and survival in SSc.

Microfluidic Nano‐Assembly of Red‐Blood‐Cell (RBC) Lipids and Components for Engineering Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Engineered red blood cell‐derived extracellular vesicles (eRBCEVs) are synthesized via controlled microfluidic assembly from native RBC lipids, enabling tunable encapsulation of proteins, nucleic acids, nanoparticles, and viral vectors. The platform demonstrates reproducible nanoscale architecture, preserved membrane composition, and functional cargo ...

Hyper‐Intense Tumor Peripheral Accumulation of Antibody‐Conjugated Iron Oxide Nanoparticles can Enable Breast Cancer Detection by Magnetic Particle Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Tumor‐associated inflammation retains antibody‐targeted or non‐specific antibody conjugated nanoparticles within the tumor microenvironment. Magnetic Particle Imaging (MPI) enables non‐invasive detection and differentiation of tumors from other organs, owing to higher nanoparticle retention by inflammatory cells in the tumor periphery.

High anaemia and iron deficiency prevalence among pregnant women living in low groundwater iron areas of Bangladesh

open access: yesBMC Public Health
Background Anaemia is a significant public health concern in Bangladesh, yet data on the prevalence of anaemia in pregnancy and the contribution of iron deficiency are limited. Given the reliance on groundwater for drinking, a better understanding of the

Presence and Characterisation of Anaemia in Diabetic Foot Ulceration

open access: yesAnemia, 2014
Introduction. Diabetic foot ulceration (DFU) is the commonest cause of severe limb ischaemia in the western world. In diabetes mellitus, anaemia is frequently unrecognized, yet studies have shown that it is twice as common in diabetics compared with ...

Iron Status and Supplementation during Tuberculosis

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2023
Tuberculosis (TB) is characterised by chronic non-resolving inflammation. The effects of the host immune and inflammatory response to reduce iron acquisition by the bacteria, together with other contributing factors, predispose TB patients to anaemia of ...

Why do adult women in Vietnam take iron tablets? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Background: Conducting iron supplementation programs has been a major strategy to reduce iron deficiency anemia in pregnancy. However, only a few countries have reported improvements in the anemia rate at a national level. The strategies used for control
