Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Hemorrhage-adjusted iron requirements, hematinics and hepcidin define hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia as a model of hemorrhagic iron deficiency.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
BackgroundIron deficiency anemia remains a major global health problem. Higher iron demands provide the potential for a targeted preventative approach before anemia develops.

The Estimation Method Comparison of Iron Loss Coefficients through the Iron Loss Calculation

open access: yesJournal of Electrical Engineering and Technology, 2013
A new calculation method for iron loss coefficients is proposed by using the Steinmetz equation from Epstein data. The hysteresis loss must have linear characteristic according to the frequency. However, the existing iron loss coefficients are defined by formula of frequency. In this case, the hysteresis loss has non-linear characteristics by frequency.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

A computational technique for iron losses in electrical machines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This paper aims to compare different methods for the computation of the iron losses. First of all, a brief recall on iron losses models is considered. In particular, Bertotti's formula, a homogenization technique and a vectorized Jiles-Atherton model are

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...

EFFECT OF GRANULOMETRY AND OXYGEN CONTENT ON SMC MAGNETIC PROPERTIES

open access: yesActa Metallurgica Slovaca, 2017
The interest around the adoption of Soft Magnetic Composite materials (SMC) in the realization of electric machines, or parts of electric machines, is continuously increasing. The main reason lies on the opportunity to realize magnetic circuits following

PAK1 activation drives divergent resistance mechanisms to aromatase inhibition and tamoxifen in a luminal: A breast cancer model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer remains a major cause of cancer death in women, frequently developing endocrine therapy resistance. This study demonstrates that upregulated p21‐activated kinase 1 (PAK1) activity drives resistance to tamoxifen and long‐term estrogen deprivation in ER+ breast cancer models.
