OXIDATION OF IRON IN NITRIC OXIDE

Chemistry Letters, 1975
Abstract Oxidation of iron plates in nitric oxide was examined. The oxidation rate was higher than that in oxygen in a certain temperature range, 450–580°C, however, it had a minimum at 550°C in regard to its temperature dependencies. The scales formed in nitric oxide was found to be consisted of only Fe3O4.

Seed-Mediated Synthesis of Iron Oxide and Gold/Iron Oxide Nanoparticles

Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2011
In this study, we prepared magnetic iron oxide and gold/iron oxide nanoparticles (NPs) and characterized their morphologies and properties by XRD, TEM, EDX, VSM and UV-vis measurements. The magnetite iron oxide NPs of 10 nm were synthesized by coprecipitation of Fe2+ and Fe+3 in the solution of NH4OH and then they were used as seed particles for the ...

Iron(VI) and Iron(V) Oxidation of Thiocyanate

Environmental Science & Technology, 2002
Thiocyanate (SCN-) is used in many industrial processes and is commonly found in industrial and mining waste-waters. The removal of SCN- is required because of its toxic effects. The oxidation of thiocyanate (SCN-) by environmentally friendly oxidants, Fe(VI) and Fe(V), has been studied anaerobically using stopped-flow and premix pulse radiolysis ...

Iron-sulfur clusters as biosensors of oxidants and iron

Trends in Biochemical Sciences, 1996
Iron-sulfur clusters are prosthetic groups commonly found in proteins that participate in oxidation-reduction reactions and catalysis. Here, we focus on two proteins that contain iron-sulfur clusters, the fumarate nitrate reduction (FNR) protein of Escherichia coli and mammalian iron-responsive-element-binding protein 1 (IRP1), both of which function ...

Gaseous reduction of iron oxides: Part III. Reduction-oxidation of porous and dense iron oxides and iron

Metallurgical Transactions, 1972
The internal reduction of high-grade granular hematite ore in hydrogen and carbon monoxide, and also the internal oxidation of porous iron granules in CO2-CO mixtures have been investigated. To assist the interpretation of the rate data for porous iron and iron oxides, rate measurements have been made also with dense wustite, previously grown on iron ...

Synthesis of Monodisperse Iron Oxide and Iron/Iron Oxide Core/Shell Nanoparticles via Iron-Oleylamine Complex

Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2006
Monodisperse magnetic nanoparticles are of great scientific and technical interests. This paper reports a single-step synthesis of monodisperse magnetite nanoparticles with particle size of 8 nm. Iron/maghaemite core/shell nanoparticles with particle size of 11 nm were obtained by reducing the concentration of oleylamine.
