The magnetic field sensors enabling birds to extract orientational information from the Earth’s magnetic field have remained enigmatic. Our previously published results from homing pigeons have made us suggest that the iron containing sensory dendrites ...

Goethite Reduction by a Neutrophilic Member of the Alphaproteobacterial Genus Telmatospirillum
In tropical iron ore regions, biologically mediated reduction of crystalline iron oxides drives ongoing iron cycling that contributes to the stability of surface duricrusts.

Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Alumina: Effects of Scanning Strategies on External and Internal Defects
This study investigates how scanning strategies affect pure alumina in laser powder bed fusion. Linear 45° scanning yields uniform surfaces but high porosity, while the island‐concentric strategy provides higher density with through‐holes favorable for infiltration. Findings highlight pathways toward optimizing defect‐free alumina parts.

The corrosion performance of AlSi7Mg and AlSi10Mg alloys produced through selective laser melting (SLM) was examined under compressive stress in a chloride environment. Electrochemical analyses, including open‐circuit potential (OCP), potentiodynamic polarization (CPP), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), were complemented by scanning ...

In current selective sequential extraction (SSE) methods, heavy metals associated well-crystallized iron oxyhydroxides are not well defined and considered, and usually fall into residual forms, which actually make their mobility and environmental risk ...

When Density Functional Approximations Meet Iron Oxides [PDF]
Three density functional approximations (DFAs), PBE, PBE+U, and Heyd–Scuseria–Ernzerhof screened hybrid functional (HSE), were employed to investigate the geometric, electronic, magnetic, and thermodynamic properties of four iron oxides, namely, α-FeOOH,

A greenhouse study was conducted to compare the effects of ordinary iron oxide (0.02-0.06 mm) and nano iron oxide (25-250 nm) and five levels of both iron oxides (0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.5, and 1.0 %w/w) and two levels of sulfurous granular compost (MSW) (0 and ...

This study explored how effective nickel aluminide coatings are obtained in providing oxidation resistance applied to the Inconel 738 alloy, modeling with diffusion models. In the present study, kinetics and thermal behavior of the Inconel 738 alloy were studied by the low‐temperature thermoreactive aluminizing process, which was carried out at 625°C ...

This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...

Manganese deposits of the Cape Peninsula, South Africa
The outcrops, petrography and geochemistry of manganese deposits were studied at several sites on the Cape Peninsula (Skeleton Gorge, Kasteelpoort Path, Kommetjie and Hout Bay) as well as at Rooi Els on the opposite side of False Bay.
