Future of Ironmaking

JOM, 1962
It has been predicted that production rates as high as 4000 tpd of hot metal will be achieved by some blast furnaces by 1972. Based on data from the 10 blast furnaces in the United States that are topmost in production, the operating improvements necessary to attain this goal are discussed in detail.

Ironmaking

This chapter describes the ironmaking technology and outlines the process essentials. The focus was put on the blast furnace process which is currently the dominating technology for ironmaking. The emerging alternative ironmaking technologies—direct reduction and smelting reduction—are only briefly presented, as they will be described in a separate ...

An Expert System for Ironmaking

2001
This paper describes an expert system for the on-line diagnosis of blast furnaces. The system analysis more than a hundred parameters in real time and shows the operator the status of the blast furnace and its behaviour. The system also gives suggestions and control set-points in order to achieve a better hot metal quality and aimed analysis, as well ...

Ironmaking with Ammonia at Low Temperature

Environmental Science & Technology, 2010
This paper describes the reduction of hematite with ammonia for ironmaking, in which the effect of temperature on the products was examined. The results showed that the reduction process began at 430 °C during heating, and with an increase in temperature, the reduction mechanism changed apparently from a direct reduction of ammonia (Fe(2)O(3) + 2NH(3) →
