Time, Irreversibility and Entropy Production in Nonequilibrium Systems
The aim of this review is to shed light on time and irreversibility, in order to link macroscopic to microscopic approaches to these complicated problems.

The concept of "irreversibility" plays a large role in many domains, including public health, medical practice, and environmental protection. Indeed, the concept is explicit in some statements of the Precautionary Principle. But the idea of irreversibility remains poorly defined. Because of the flow of time, any loss is, in a sense, irreversible.

Energetic footprints of irreversibility in the quantum regime [PDF]
In classical thermodynamic processes the unavoidable presence of irreversibility, quantified by the entropy production, carries two energetic footprints: the reduction of extractable work from the optimal, reversible case, and the generation of a surplus

Energy and Exergy Analysis of Palm Tree Pruning Residues Gasification
Gasification is the process of obtaining syngas containing combustible gases such as H2, CO and small amounts of CH4 from biomass by performing partial combustion with a limited oxygen supply or with the help of suitable oxidants such as CO2 and water ...

Gibbs Entropy and Irreversibility [PDF]
This contribution is dedicated to dilucidating the role of the Gibbs entropy in the discussion of the emergence of irreversibility in the macroscopic world from the microscopic level.

Barriers for fast matrix multiplication from irreversibility [PDF]
Determining the asymptotic algebraic complexity of matrix multiplication, succinctly represented by the matrix multiplication exponent ω, is a central problem in algebraic complexity theory. The best upper bounds on ω, leading to the state-of-the-art ω ≤

Irreversibility in quantum field theories with boundaries [PDF]
We study conformal field theories with boundaries, and their boundary renormalization group (RG) flows, using methods from quantum information theory. Positivity of the relative entropy, together with unitarity and Lorentz invariance, give rise to bounds

The Gibbs Paradox, the Landauer Principle and the Irreversibility Associated with Tilted Observers
It is well known that, in the context of General Relativity, some spacetimes, when described by a congruence of comoving observers, may consist of a distribution of a perfect (non–dissipative) fluid, whereas the same spacetime as seen by a “tilted ...

Microscopic theory for the time irreversibility and the entropy production
In stochastic thermodynamics, the entropy production of a thermodynamic system is defined by the irreversibility measured by the logarithm of the ratio of the path probabilities in the forward and reverse processes.

Fluctuation theorems for continuous quantum measurements and absolute irreversibility [PDF]
Fluctuation theorems are relations constraining the out-of-equilibrium fluctuations of thermodynamic quantities like the entropy production that were initially introduced for classical or quantum systems in contact with a thermal bath.
